I have a blue steel 2in bbl S&W hand ejector model with no model number. Serial number of butt is 32865. Revolver is small like a Chiefs Special in 38 special but when place next to x Chief it is smaller.
From what you are describing, with the exception of the ramp FS, it could be a Terrier in .38 S&W. Does it look like this?
Pre-war Terrier:
... or like this?
Post war Terrier:
... also the some of the earlier Chief Special's had a smaller trigger guard - we refer to them as "Baby Chiefs" and the later ones had ramped front sights, like this one (ignore the engraving):
With your description of a 3 screw sideplate, a five digit serial #, and ramp front sight, you can only have a Model of 1953 New I frame Terrier 5 shot, chambered for the .38 S&W cartridge (a Pre model 32) from the 1956-7 period.
If it has target sights and is a .22, it could also be a .22/32 Kit Gun but I think you would have mentioned if it had target sights!
The problem is that serial #32865 you provided is not correct for that period of Terrier.
Please recheck the serial # with magnification and also the number under the barrel and rear face of the cylinder.
