Welcome! It depends on their workload, vacations, etc., but about 6 weeks is average in my experience.
Now that the cat is out of the bag...tell us about your RM?

Thanks everyone for response. Will wait a few more weeks.
My RM is ser# 599xx. Probably 1939 production. Maybe 80% condition(higher ?).
As soon as I learn to post attachments, I will include photo. Never been part of forum. Kind of on the dinosaur side. Must learn how to navigate.

I KNOW DAT RIGHT!!!
When I first joined back around 2003-2004, I had a goodly number of S&Ws. Since then, that number has expanded and so have the boxes of spare parts.
Most of all, my KNOWLEDGE of S&Ws has grown by leaps and bounds and THAT is a wonderful thing.

Not S&W, but I feel your pain. I got complete bum info from the Savage customer service rep and waited 2 months only to have my letter returned and a notice telling me the how the process really works- that I should have sent a check in before...and it's been about 3 more weeks since I sent the check. Thanks for nothing, Savage Customer service.

We are currently 8 to 12 weeks out. Response for letters has been great.
Thanks to everyone who has sent for a letter.

I think that folks have to realize that doing the history letters is not the only function of the folks that do the letters. I have been in Roy Jink's office doing research for my 22/32 HFT database and his phone and email are constantly working. He gets calls all day long from folks looking for information on their S&W and many times the gun turns out to be from a different manufacturer but shoots a round like ".38 S&W Special". Folks assume therefore that it is a S&W.
There are also calls from law enforcement trying to track down information on a given firearm.
With the quantity of requests that are received 6 days a week it is a wonder that they are only 8 weeks out.

Letter of Authenticity
Received my letter last week. My RM was shipped in September 1939 to Adolph Blaich Co in San Francisco for a individual. One unit.
6.5 inch barrel, patridge front sight, square notch rear sight. Blue finish and checkered walnut magna grips.
The grips on mine are not issue, no diamond checkering. Seem to be S&W, but ? Fit the gun very good, look good. Removed grip screw, but the grips are very snug. Not sure how to remove them with no damage. Any thoughts ?
This revolver must be one of the last produced.
Serial No. 599xx. Working on posting picture. It looks in great condition.

I have another RM 599xx on my list, it shipped 9/29/39. The lowest NRM SN I have on my list is 60133 and I believe it is very close to being the first NRM. Best way to remove stuck grips is to turn the screw out until the head is above the grip surface. Then tap on the screw head. Once one panel is removed, you can tap the other one out.

Put the grip screw back in a few turns then tap on the screw head this should push the opposite grip off enough to get it off. Then simply push the other grip off from the inside.

Sure would like to see pictures! I'm envious - been looking for a verifiable 1939-dated S&W revolver for decades!

Fishpaw recommends putting the screw (or a punch) back in AT AN ANGLE so that you will be pushing against the grip panel, rather than the escutcheon. Doing the latter, he says, may push out the escutcheon and even take a piece of wood with it. As the Buddhists say, forewarned is forearmed.

I have never had that happen, but I guess it could. I did it last week on a ca.1938 HD, reasonably sure the grips (Magnas) had never been previously removed as they were on very tight. Light tapping on the screw did the job.

Thanks everyone. Tapping the screw worked perfectly.
Right side is stamped into wood 325886
Both side are stamped N R. Both grips have S&W Medallion
No diamond checkering
I will try to get some pictures posted. New to all this

Pretty sure the grips are not original, as 325866 is too high for an N-frame and does not match the gun's SN. Pictures will help. Unclear - are the grips checkered or smooth? Magna or Round Top? Could even be K-frame grips.
