Should be located on the butt, rear of the cylinder and on the barrel, behind the ejector rod when the cylinder is closed.

Right....seems to be missing S/N's on a few locations.
Hmmm.....very strange.....maybe a replacement cylinder?
Nothing on the cylinder, ejector or crane.
Just the two locations, barrel & grip butt.

The only reason for replacement would have been that the original cylinder may have been damaged......or defective in some way.
Since there are NO markings on the grip frame indicating it was sent back to the factory I can only assume the replacement/repair was done elsewhere.

I have two 5-screw 44 Magnums with cylinders with no serial number stamped on their rear surface. The ejector does not have a number either. These two revolvers were reworked during manufacture by having their cylinder replaced. There is a very lightly stamped R on the left side of the grip frame indicating they were reworked. Reworking of revolvers is much more common than you might think.

Bill, I will look closer for an "R" on the grip frame.....thanks for the information. This cylinder shows wear consistent with the rest of the gun and as mentioned the coloration is spot on as far as the blue is concerned.
The rework scenario at the factory makes sense.

That indicates an original Highway Patrolman cylinder. The H told the finish shop to use the satin blue finish rather than the bright blue used on the .357 Magnum.
Doesn't mean the factory didn't do a cylinder swap before this gun shipped. Just means it got the right finish from the get-go.

Butt, barrel shroud, rear of cylinder, underside of ejector star, yoke (looking through one of the chambers, right hand stock with magnas, possibly on target stocks, but rare, and maybe under the sideplate. I believe that covers it.

Tom, it looks like you have a real nice revolver. As long as it's tight, in time and etc. shoot it and enjoy it.
