Hello all knowing SWCA members......

I wondered if anyone has bought/sold a clean early Model of 1905 Target in 32-20 recently??

I have my eye on one and wanted to know where these guns are landing these days and how much one should expect to pay for one in original 95% condition or better?

I know they are less common in 32-20 chambering, but I am really not up one how uncommon they are??

Thanks all!

Sold one in about 85-90% a year ago for $650, what I had in it.
Gave $1050 for this one two years ago.

Bruce, if you've got any more of those I'd love a couple at either price. Very, very nice!

I kick myself in the butt for selling the one at $650. It was very nice except for a little ding at the end of the barrel. Cosmetic only, but I later found that a friend and fellow forum member wound up with it, so that makes it easier to bear.

Hey Tom,

You've landed on one of my favorite calibers; the 32-20. I grew up in a little Texas town called Albany, shooting 32 WCF in a Colt SAA first gen.

I buy almost every one I see.

Let me know how you do on purchasing that one.

I think there are far fewer .32-20 Targets than .38s, which makes sense since production numbers of the former was just over 10% of the latter over the 1899-1940 time frame. Figure no more than 10% Target versions and you are looking at a fairly scarce gun.

For a nice one, just over $1000 sounds fair, and $650 even better. :)

One of mine, 1905, 4th Change, high 90's sold for approximately $1225-$1250 maybe 6mos. ago.

Another, 2nd Change, high 90's, remains (to the best of my knowledge)----check with David Carroll.

MORE THAN JUST SIGHTS-----------

A target sighted gun from the factory is a target gun. A fixed sight gun from the factory with an adjustable sight added may very well not be. A factory target gun has been treated to some TLC described thus by S&W: "-------For these reasons a special type of trigger pull is desirable---not by any means simply a very light pull, but one having the peculiar quality termed "short and crisp" by shooters. This not only requires a special type of notch and trigger point, but requires a different adjustment of the working parts of the action."

Additionally, "A trigger pull of from 5 to 7 pounds is standard for our fixed sighted arms------------while on arms fitted with target sights the standard trigger pull is 3 to 4 pounds."
