I bought this very nice 3 1/" bb. nickel 1950 gun from member Mojave30cal last week.
I also bought a Heiser 457 holster and a 9 row SAT with the gun.

I am a 'basic black" guy when it comes to firearms. In over 40 years I had only two "shiny" guns. Both Mod 640, both gone now. I must say this nickel is very attractive in person. It's really grown on me.

Mojave posted this gun 10 years ago when he got it, but he encouraged me to re-post it. Even the pictures are his :) I may attempt my own pictures, but I'm not a very good photographer, and I've heard nickel is hard to photograph well. I thought his pictures were pretty good.

Not only did I get a great gun, I also made a new friend.

Same here! I've always preferred vintage blued revolvers, but over the past few years I've added a 4" nickel .44 HE 3rd Model (W&K 1926), a 6" nickel .38 M&P (1950), a nickel Model 19-4 snubby, a 6" nickel Model 29-2, and a 4" nickel Model 57. They make nice shiny additions to my modest collection. You picked up a very nice revolver and holster. Enjoy!

Robert, thanks, but I am going to keep this one for a long time.

I am still looking for a blue 3 1/2" S prefix five digit, though ;)

Since you are a black gun guy, I can take that ugly, shiny thing off your hands....it would look nice beside its longer brother.

Robert

I have a 27-2 that I bought new in June of 1973. It is also 6” nickel. I put a pair of checkered S&W rosewood target stocks on it. It is nice companion piece to my nickeled 6 1/2” model 29-2 with GA cokes and my second year production 5” 38/44 HD.

While my favorites are the K Frame target models and Combat Masterpiece the is something special about the N frames. I wish that I had picked up a 3 1/2” or 5” model 27 when they were’nt so sought after.

Pretty gun ... and if you reach out to the Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation, they can send you a copy of the original factory invoice for a small fee.

I have an identical gun. Would S79XXX have been in the same shipment or did it ship later? No, I have not lettered it yet. Matching numbers except for unreleaved presentation rosewood targets.
