I have become much more interested in long range shooting these days and may shed a Model 29 or 2 to fund new projects. I'm out of touch with the current S&W market so wanted to ask the experts here for advice. Sorry for my amateur-ish pics. Any comments or opinions are welcomed as to the condition and value of these fine old S&W pistols.

First up, pre 29 6.5". S171xxx. Overall very nice but has some scratches on the left side of the barrel.

Next up, Mod 29 no dash 4". S193xxx. Has seen some more days out of the safe than the other gun but still a nice looking piece.

Nice looking set of 4 screw 44 mags with original cokes. Looks like someone drilled and tapped the top strap on the 6 1/2". The 4" is much less common of a barrel length and would likely bring a premium. I'd say easy, 6.5"= 2Gs, 4"+3Gs. I'm not looking at internet pricing, just a gut feeling. I know there will be many more estimates coming your way.

29 ND 4"

Next up, Mod 29 no dash 4". S193xxx. Has seen some more days out of the safe than the other gun but still a nice looking piece.

I recently (Past 30 days) picked up a 29 ND on big auction site.
2050$
Close to $2400 with tax and shipping
Very Gently used. Not LNIB and no box. Maybe 97% overall ?

I think Retired W4's estimates are reasonable. If the pre-29 has been D&T and the cokes refinished then maybe on the low side of $2k. The no dash 4 inch 29 perhaps $2500. I paid $2k for a 6.5 in very good condition here on the Forum last year. Good luck.

Both are very nice vintage 4-screw revolvers wearing their original Coke Bottle stocks. They each have their share of turn rings and scratches, and have obviously been shot quite a bit. Irregardless, I think that $2K for the 6-1/2" (ca. 1957) and maybe $2200 for the 4" (ca. 1959) would be fair prices.

One of the methods that I use when trying to ballpark prices is to look at the SOLD listings on a site like Gun Broker. Like any attempt at using comparisons, one must add and subtract if one package comes with the original box and docs and the second one does not. Similarly you need to adjust for condition and different barrel lengths. I prefer the longer barrels but many here rate the shorter barrels higher because fewer were made.

So all in all, there are many factors to consider. Don't look at asking prices because some sellers think that since they saw one sell (in NIB condition) that their boat anchor must be worth that amount too.

Whatever you decide, I would place an ad here on the forum because most of the serious S&W collectors hover here.

So it all boils down to if a mint pre 29 44 mag with black case and tools is worth $4200 to $4500, how much would you take for one with wear and scratches with no box and tools. Ultimately you are the judge.

Check other listing and go from there. The model 29 no dash 4" is interesting because they are not offered much.

Just a little perspective here. A very nice 29 ND (4 screw) with GA cokes just hammered for $1500. That's $1950 delivered. I now have a 5 screw, 4 screw and a 1963 -2. I think I'm done now.

Of course you are! Hahahaha...who do you think you're kidding? .44 Magnum revolvers are extremely addictive and I have a feeling that there are at least one or two more in your future. Good hunting and enjoy!
