FedEx shipping of C&R guns

I routinely ship via FedEx 2nd day. I always declare that it is a firearm (as required). The last 2 revolvers I sent out, the return address is my home address. FedEx was checking that the shipper (me) had an FFL. Today, I remembered to take a copy of my own license. The clerck checked that my FFL address matched the return address. No problem. But, I am not sure about someone without any license shipping via FedEx if you declare it is a firearm?? Also, I always insert the recipient's FFL copy in the plastic sleave containing the label and inform the cherk.

I am a buyer, never sell. Years back I sent a handgun out for some custom work, but that was too far back for me to remember how. I was recently surprised when I ordered a little 22/32 kit gun from a dealer in Georgia, using my C&R, to be delivered to me in Texas. The delivery lady from the post office put it into my hand. Previously the only why I had received a handgun was UPS. Rifles and shotguns no problems.

No, they can not, according to Fed Ex.

The laws are vast! It's common to ship from FFL type 1 (dealer) to FFL type 3 (C & R) by USPS as long as it is C & R eligible and it doesn't violate your state's rules. A signature is required.

Because of all the hassles with the CA laws, I decided to get my Type 1 FFL in addition to my Type 3, which was a major task. It's much more difficult to get a type 1 in CA.

If you do decide to sell, a local FFL will usually ship it for you to another FFL at a minimal charge plus postage.

My C&R license is great for receiving (and for getting discounts from several parts cos), but for shipping, it's cheaper and easier for me to give my 01 FFL friend a $20 plus postage and insurance to send handguns via USPS.

Neither UPS or FedEx will ship a purchased handgun to or from anyone without an FFL (repaired handguns are an exception). This is an administrative/internal decision on their part from about 2-3 years ago, not law.
