What to do after an endoscopy? Buy a gun!
Seriously, my very good gun buddy and FFL drove me to the endoscopy. No big deal there. Then he tells me that Jackson Armory in Snider Plaza (you can look it up; URL is not permitted) has a Smith & Wesson I have to see. EEK! I'm really not buying guns much but, okay, make me go see it.
If I understand what I am seeing and what page 487 of the 4th Edition of the SCSW is telling me, and the gun store guy, I have a five screw M&P that, because the butt has an S on the far left side and then 874221 way to the right, was sent to the factory for a "S"afety modification.
I'd love details on that modification.
Then my buddy shows me a gorgeous Model 15, priced around $675. I couldn't get motivated, I wasn't looking for a thousand dollar day. The M&P was $325 TTL/OTD. I think I did okay there!

Nice! Great price.
We went out for breakfast after my last colonoscopy. At least that's what my wife says. I don't remember it. Lol.

Jackson Arms is a great place to go and look at guns. I think you probably know that.

That is incorrect. All revolvers, with the exception of some 1917s, received the sliding bar safety. Fixed sight K and all of the N frames had "S" prefixes to the serial number.
In 1948, fixed sight K frames received "C" serial number prefixes. K frames with adjustable rear sights had the letter "K" in the serial number.

Jack will be along shortly with more information, but with the images and presuming the serial number reads with the S towards the muzzle end, it is a standard early postwar .38 M & P from (roughly) early 1947? Cool gun in any case and a great price.

I was told to not make any purchases following my last colonoscopy, I guess from the other end is a different perspective...looking at things from the bright side, so to speak.

My doctor decided to do the endoscopy and the colonoscopy together. The killing two birds with one stone thing.
Afterwards had a great breakfast and then the wife drove to my favorite Gun Shop.

Colon cancer killed my dad back in '98, my brother and I started getting colonoscopy's and I would say I've had at least five since then, one just a month or so ago. It has always been my habit to eat a big breakfast after all the fasting, we have a favorite railcar diner we go to...doesn't matter what time of day breakfast always tastes good to me, probably my favorite meal. This place is famous for their Eggs Benedict, I will confess to having a thing for Eggs Benedict regardless of how uppity they may be I have always like a good one and their's is second to none. They have a special smoked Wild Boar Benedict that is my favorite.

Some how colonoscopy and eggs benedict don't go well together, but the more I think about it the hungrier I get. They were feeding me as soon as my colectomy was done.
Nice 38 M&P BTW.

Why do you think the URL: for a web site isn't allowed? Is the Jackson Armory you meant? Click on the link! Just links to currently active auctions are prohibited.

For the record, it's Jackson Armory. Jackson Arms was a different store in a similar location and is closed for many years.

The last time I posted a URL to a gun store, a moderator politely told me that the rules did not permit that, and he deleted the URL. He explained that since guns are sold there that the use of the URL was outside the rules.
OTOH, the link you posted doesn't go directly to that store so maybe it's okay. It's just pages of information. Post a link to an actual gun store as opposed to pages of information and I guarantee it will be deleted and a moderator will have a discussion with you about it. I don't make this stuff up!

I need to flesh this out some:
Quote:
That is incorrect. All revolvers, with the exception of some 1917s, received the sliding bar safety. Fixed sight K and all of the N frames had "S" prefixes to the serial number.
|
Not that I'm disagreeing, because I'm not, but page 487 of the SCSW indicates that SNs 700000 through 1000000 were used from 1940 - 1945. Page 489 says S serial numbers were used on Fixed sight K frames/Pre-models 10,11, 45. Those numbers go from S811120 - S999999.
So, can I presume that the store guy failed to move past Page 487 and that, quite literally, the HE in question was possibly made in 1945 but could easily have been made sometime through 1949? And that he was totally incorrect about the S?
I'm betting that's the explanation. It doesn't change much in terms of the deal that I got but accuracy matters!
Thanks, Muley!

I used to go to Jackson Arms regularly when I lived on Belmont in Dallas. I guess it is fitting that the old place where I used to go is gone. But on the other hand it is good that there is another gun shop in the same shopping center. I guess I need to go there next time I am in town.

You won't be disappointed. The now defunct Jackson Arms was an elegant store that, as I recollect, sold fancy vintage guns and antiques. Jackson Armory has plenty of vintage and antique guns and a slew of current models as well. It's a small space packed tightly with firearms!

I should have said that Post WW II, K frame fixed sight and all N frames had "S" SN prefixes.
