Did the model of 1950 ever come with a patridge front sight? Please post a picture if you have one. I think I missed out on a deal at a real estate auction (that regretably, i couldn't attend). The gun was described as "no model number, 5 digit serial, diamond grips, .357" I saw a (poor quality) picture online of the gun. it has patridge front sight. Just want background on the gun, just in case i track it down.

In my searches, i have managed to see some of the above stated model sporting a patridge front sight. Looks like i missed out. An attendee of the auction said it went for between $400 and $500. He also said it looked as though it were in beautiful shape. Oh well.

To the best of my knowledge forum member Gizamo is the only person in the world who refers to the post-war .357 Magnums as "Models of 1950." The rest of us reserve that identification for the .44 and .45 caliber guns introduced that year (the .357 came out in 1948).
Among the various 1950 models the .45 ACP revolver and the .44 Special revolver with the 6.5" barrel both came with the Patridge front sight as standard.
On the .357 Magnum models the 6" and longer barrels frequently (most often, in fact) have the Patridge front sight. On the 6.5" .357s the ramp front sight is often seen but this option is very rare on the 6" and 8" guns.

Although S&W's All Model Circulars listed the ".357" Magnum as being available with any front sight blade, most of the guns with a six-inch barrel or longer were fitted with a Patridge blade. Guns with a 3 1/2-inch or 5-inch barrel were usually fitted with a Baughman ramp blade.

thanks for the info. regarding the "model of 1950" in terms of a .357, I took that straight from the SCSW, 3rd ed. If figure if Mr. Supica calls it that, I will call it that.
When I searched "model of 1950", i did notice the discussion of nominclature for that particular model, interesting.
