Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, 3rd edition, by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas....kind of like the bible for Smith info.

Is the 3rd edition the most recent edition? I've been trying to track a SCSW down and want to make sure I pick up the most up-to-date version. Thanks -Rob

3rd edition is the current one out and amazon.com usually has the best price on them

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and had a quick question. I have what I believe is a k-22 and the serial number is 138xxx, serial number under the barrel has a b in front of it, number on the butt is the same number without the b. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

The b is for BLUE finish. If a K22, it should have a K prefix to the serial number on the butt. It should have shipped in 1951-52

Your K22 is most likely an outdoorsmen, shipped mid to late 30's. If it is an Outdoorsmen, it would not have a K prefix on the butt. These are great guns with the super smooth pre war long action.

Charlie,
Thanks for your response. I looked at the Blue Book again and
it definitely is a Outdoorsman. It serial 661XXX is probably 1935-7, you are correct no K in it.
It was filthy, I cleaned it and hit a can at 25 yards with the first shot. I know why people love these guns so much.

I just joined the forum. I have two S&W's. One Model 35 I bought used in 1970. One K22 I inherited from my father. Any info on it that someone might share. Serial number of K644. Thanks for your help.

K22 Masterpiece Serial No.

I am looking at a K22 with a serial number of K39xxx. A five (5) digit number, not counting the "K". Can anyone with serial number information confirm whether that serial number is correct, and what the manufacturing date would be for that serial number?
Thanks,
Dennis

Its possibly a correct number. Or lets say that back in 1948 they made a gun with that serial. You question it like you're not sure you read it correctly. Without seeing the gun or a picture, I have no way of knowing if you read it right or not. There are other places on the gun where its easy to see the number. Open the cylinder and look on the rear face, like where the cartridges go in. It'll be smaller, but often easier to read. Then while the cylinder is still swung out, look at the flat on the underside of the barrel. Use a magnifying glass. All the numbers should be the same.

Hi

Welcome to the Forum.

The next time you post a new question, you might think about starting a new thread rather than appending your question to a thread that is a few years old. This will give your revolver a clean slate for people to comment on and neither you nor anyone else will have to scroll through lots of old information. :)

Now, to answer your question, Your K-22 Model 17 was made in 1967. That would mean it is probably a Model 17-3, but it is possible it is a Model 17-2. If you open the cylinder and look on the frame in the yoke cut, you can find out for sure.

Date of Manufacture

I have a K22 Model #34-1 serial #68130 and need to know DOM I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
