Default Cheap 28-2

Stopped by one of my honey holes looking for 30-30 ammo, components and found this pristine 6” 28-2 instead. No rust, holster wear, or marks just a fine turn line. $548 OTD.

I had no need for another 6” 28, but I figured I’d kick myself for not grabbing it. Will likely use it for trading fodder at the next gun show.

That's not just a deal, that's a steal at that price. Good for you.

I used to have several pawn shops call me when they wanted a quick sale on a Smith. About 20 years ago one called and told me to come by. He had a beautiful 6" pre 28 with a yellow front sight insert and barely a turn line at $200 OTD. About the same time I encountered a guy carrying 4" around a gun show, in the box with all papers, and he was asking $300.00. I told him I'd give him $250 and he wouldn't have to carry it around. He agreed. Those days are gone. I bought one a few weeks ago from a pawn shop for $600 and was happy to get it at that price. You could tell someone knowledgeable once owned it because sometime in it's past it got a white front sight insert, a .400 smooth trigger, and an action job, all appeared well done. It is now one of my favorite shooters and occasional carry piece.

No such thing as a "cheap" Highway Patrolman. Inexpensive, yes. Just not "cheap."

(Just having some fun here . . .)

Jeeeesh Lou, I just want to follow you around to gather up any leavings. You stumble into some of the best deals ever. Congrats on another great find.

Nothing wrong with those grips for a day at the range.
For photos you can dress it up with some nice factory wood.
YMMV

Thanks!
It's not easy being me; I am always on the hunt. My lady friends are always telling me I have a problem and I need help; unfortunately, they're right. They all wish they were guns so I'd play with them as much. I attribute most of my gun problem to this forum and all its enablers.

I'm at a loss for words, but my mind is reeling just thinking about what you wrote. It sounds like it's pretty easy being you.

Nice 6" 28 too.

My local gun shop just closed after 28 yrs . I always knew that if he had something priced less than $400 , it was worth looking at . The last 2 I bought was a Ruger Stain less Steel Security Six , 357 , 4" barrel for under $400 and a Springfield Arms 9XD , 4 " barrel . Last yr I got a Colt Police Positive Special , in 38 special that looked brand new for less than $375 . I'm glad for the opportunities that came to me . Regards Paul

His prices are usually more inline with the current market. For example, he had a 4” 18-3 at $920 for months and wouldn’t budge. Not sure what he finally sold it for, but it was gone. I was shocked when I saw the price and was happy the pay the $549 he was asking, but I offered $549 and no sales tax. He diddled around with his calculator and countered with $548 OTD. It’s going to a show with me this weekend.
