Serial Number to date of mfg table
I know its here somewhere, but I can't find it.
Given the serial number and model number, I need to find the date of mfg.
Some parts are specific to date of Mfg not serial number range or Model Number.
Help. Please.
Thanks,
sqalty

If it's a S&W email them w/the model and serial number. They get back to you in short order.

Depending on the age of the gun, the factory can give you a production date (starting from the late 1980s or so). Before then guns were tracked by shipping (sales) date. Popular models were sold quickly, but there are plenty of examples of guns shipped years or decades after they "should" have been produced.

The book Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson has a number of pages that list serial numbers by model and year of production. It is not fully complete, but most revolvers are listed. If you provide the serial number and model, someone on this sight will look it up if you don't have access to the book.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the assistance.
The revolver hhas been moved to my Mom's place and I do not have the serial number.
I should have checked the safe before posting the question. I didn't and my bad. It is, for sure, a no-dash M-60.

One more time.
I now have the serial number of the no-dash model 60.
On the base of the handle are the numbers/letters AES9187.
There is a Tyler Grip Adapter en-route supposedly for a pre '55
J Frame.
Curious if this M60 fits into that catagory. If not, when made?
Thanks,
salty

By the serial, it looks like 1984 production.

The model 60 was introduced in 1965, I believe, so you would want the Tyler T-Grip "style #1", not the "pre-1955" style.
