M10-5 Info needed
I looked at a M10-5 serial #D495xxx today. When I looked it up in the Standard Catalog it appears that the 10-5 is a 1962 gun, but the serial# on the bottom of the grip frame is a 1972-73 number. I am confused. School me please. Thanks.

Look again. The -5 ran from 1962 until 1977 when it became a -7 engineering change. The even dash number guns were Heavy barrel and ran concurrent with the standard barrel. Don't feel bad we get this confusion all the time.

What would be a reasonable price on this 10-5 in very good condition with a very slight blue wear on both sides of the barrel around the middle of the barrel. I would not have noticed if the shop guy had not pointed it out to me. Wood grips are also in very good shape. Thanks again.

Mark, I would go $300 plus or minus, your choice. What are they asking for it?

They are asking $350 OTD. It has the tapered barrel and does not appear to have been shot much. Compared to the Police trade-in M10's at Bud's, night and day.

There ya go. I would offer $300 and go to $325 if I had to OTD and I bet you can walk out with it. BTW, in my opinion the standard tapered barrel has better balance than the heavy barrel.

I bought this mint 10-5 with 4 inch barrel made in 1972 two weeks ago for $375 so work backward from there.

I paid $177 for this one. But it was about 6 years ago. To me $350 sounds high for a gun where the production figures run in the millions. I still think a garden variety M10 is a $250 gun.
But I probably couldn't buy one for that price.
