Model 66 nib value from 1974 manufacture?
I am looking at a brand new in a case, special edition model 66.
What is a potential value for this gun with case?
This is a us border patrol model

IMHO the S&W "marked commemorative's" have never appreciated the way people thought they would when they were originally purchased, and actually sell for less than the same gun that is unmarked. Without knowing all the details of the gun, I am taking a stab at saying around $500 - tops. If the marked commemorative means something to you personally, then you can add that value to it. Personally, I would not want a gun marked with an agency logo that I had no affiliation with.

A NIB 66 is worth more than 500 bucks. Used ones not in the box go for more than that. I don't like fancy marked guns, even if I was affiliated with the agency. You ever see those "World War II Commemarative 1911's" that they have in the gun magazines? Gold inliad lettering and drawings of Iwo Jima, but it's still just a 1911 and the fanciness of it means i won't shoot it. They go for like 5 grand. I can't imagine anyone buying one.

Per the standard S & W reference, there were 3138 of these produced in 1976 as you describe it. There are several threads about the pros and cons of buying commemoratives, but personally I would price it the same as a NIB gun (because it is, USBP markings and all) - $550-600?
Then comes the dilemma of shooting it, which will diminish its value to a collector...good luck in your decision.

Well maybe my estimate was $50 bucks or so low, but I actually value a "marked gun" at a lower value than a regular version. Seriously, I see them for sale from time to time and they are usually less than the standard versions of the same models.

Thank You all for your opinions and thoughts about this one.
It really has me stumped......
like another user stated, it is a NIB revolver made in 1974, so that should count for quite a bit in another 3-5 years the way that S&W pinned guns are going up lately.
I think I can get it for $550-$575......
The funny part is , anytime I see any NIB older S&W, even a regular non-commemorative version, it is for sale for $650-$750+.... I have never seen a NIB S&W for $500-$550 around here.... especially a 35 year old one.
I don't know what to think then.....

I can't speak as to it's current value, but since I have an affiliation with the agency it would mean more to me, however like Chief said, if I didn't have an affiliation, it might be worth less to me unless I just wanted a shooter.
I haven't seen one in forever, let us know if you get it. As an old BP Agent I'd love to see it.
Take care...

thanks Bobcat!
Here in Texas, I would think a border patrol pistol would mean a lot more than to someone up north on the canuck border even....
If I buy it, I will definitely take some pics of it and post them here.
Thanks!

What barrel length are you talking about? As a 1974 it would be a pinned and recessed. 2 1/2" NB around here would be close to $700. 4" $600 range.
LOE marked? Sorry. I wouldn't pay anything more than a 'shooter price' for.

I think I am going to get it....
as long as I can get it right.
NIB C-word and S&W guns are getting very scarce, and even the lesser models are bringing more and more premium lately....
