Welcome to the Forum.
Based on your description and picture, that is a good price.
And sure, a "new in perfect condition" with box, paper and tools will be harder to find and add atleast another hundred dollars onto the price.

Congratulations on the purchase and that’s a good price in today’s market as the Model 28 has raised in price a lot in the past 18 months. Two years ago they were a bargain selling for $400 to $450 but then people realized that it was an N frame and basically the same gun as the Model 27 just without the top strap checkering and high luster blue that the Model 27 has.

Jump on that. You won't regret it and if you do then you can always turn around and sell it here for the same price. But most guys end up with a "from my cold dead hands" type of mentality when it comes to these guns.

I can understand the "want a box" thought but that is only important if you are planning on selling it. The price is very reasonable, jump on it.

Some collectors like to have the box, etc, for research or for creating a display for shows. I agree that, to most of us, the box is superfluous.
$525 is a low price for what you describe / what is pictured.

It is difficult to give my views on pricing, because if I find what I want and can afford it, I buy it. Everyone has gotten a "deal", but few of us admit to overpaying for some Smiths we have. While I do not believe the M28-2 you show is a great deal, heck, it looks like a beautiful piece and worth having. If you really want a M28-2 with the box, docs and tools, pass on it and continue the search. As to whether or not I would buy it at that price, yes I would. But I love M28-2's, especially the 4" model.

I would hold out for the box. Where did you say that gun was located.

I sold a 6" model that rode around the ranch in a holster hanging from a gun rack in my pickup everyday for 20 years for $575 a few months ago.
Jump on it.

The 28 is the tank of revolvers, one of the sturdiest ever built. Last week I noticed one in a LGS, in good condition, marked $ 599.00. The price you quote is a good one. If you take a pass there will soon be someone else who will jump on it.

May I respectfully submit that those who think it is overpriced are either living in the past, or some part of the country that is a gun-lovers paradise. If the latter, please tell me where you are located and how long you can put me up.
This one was about $230 plus tax, IIRC. But it has a few minor condition issues, and the slightly less desirable (in today's market anyways) six inch barrel. But I paid that price years ago (4? 6? ?? CRS).
I am not inclined to sell it, but if I were so inclined, any offer less than $525 would be summarily rejected.

These 2 I got last Sept. at a gun show. Stocks I believe are not correct. Where do all the original stocks go ? I thought they were nice enough to say, I'll take both. Just noticed small scratch at the top of the grip in 1st pic.

O.K. while we are on the subject, (of 28's) is a no dash 28 worth more than a -2 in like condition? I bought a no dash 6" (1960) for $450, the ad stated that it was the -2. Regardless, it is NICE! Bob

The price is fair and a box is attainable on ebay, gunbroker, or a number of other places. The most important thing is the gun and that looks great! The rest can come later.

Yes that's a good price, as good as you're apt to find anyway, unless you have a horseshoe and are due some very good karma. You'd better move on it if you are so inclined as it will not be there long.

thanks all. havent bought yet. im not buying to sell, but im not really buying as collector. i just like buying stuff that actually worth something later on, something that actually worth more than i paid. its always nice to have box with it though. the excuse i give the wife that im buying another gun is that im just building a life insurance policy for us and her, if something happens to me then she can cash out. but i got a s&w model 60, chiefs special,2" stainless lnib all papers and tool, traded a rifle i picked up for 125.00 year ago.(might have the s&w bug now) ill buy any gun for the right price, (no retail unless im looking for a gun in particular)) just not sure this is the right price on this one. i like, want it just dont how bad.

I paid $650.00 for a 4", with target grips, in near new condition, in the box, with some of the papers, a year or so ago. I'm sure that was "too much" but since then I've seen a total of 0 others like it for sale.
I worried about having paid "too much" for a couple of days. Then I got over it.
I don't think I'd take $650.00 for it today.

Buy it, you are unlikely to find a 4 inch 28-2 in this condition with the box in this price range.
If you later find a 28-2 with its box you can still buy it and sell this one for what you paid for it or more.

That sounds exactly like one I had been seeing at the local gun shows over the last year or two. Then at the last show the dealer no longer had it.
I thought $650 was too much. But then someone came along who thought differently and took that fine revolver home with him. You don't see four inchers around here much, let alone four inchers in LNIB condition. So I certainly will not say you paid too much. Truth is, maybe I waited too long.
