Default 64-1 price check

Would be a FTF deal.

No box, grips aren't original, but it appears to be in good shape.

He's asking $400.00.

Probably not a great deal, but it's not a LE trade in.

If I could get it for less, say $375, would that be a decent deal?

Thanks.

Might be a bit high but pricing seems to depend on your location. I paid $480 for a 65 with box papers and tools in like new condition.

There's pricing info in this forum here on this link.

Model 64 value

I've bought a 64-2 with 2" barrel, original grips, but no box or anything for $420 and a 10-7 with 2" barrel, original grips, and no box for $430 within the last year. The 2" guns are about $50 higher I think so if you want a very good shooter gun and you like it then who's to say it isn't a good deal.

Can anyone give a DOB (years) guesstimate with the S&W emblem on the right side vs. left side?

EDIT:

S/N is D7983$$

1975-1976

The -1 was first introduced in 1972 in the heavy barrel, replacing the standard barrel no dash models.

Hope this is helpful.

I paid $350 plus tax for a good condition 64-5 and thought that was a good deal. $400 FTF/OTD for that gun - appears to be in great shape - is not bad.

If you want it, get it. Note that it's a square butt - if that matters to you. But the pics look reallly clean. I would pay that and feel good about the deal.

The replacement stocks are beat up with a poor fit. Also I see some scratches and nicks that would likely look bad under strong lighting. The sides of the muzzle look chewed up. Sorry that gun is not "clean".

I probably wouldn't buy that gun unless I really needed another shooter. As a shooter I wouldn't pay more than $325.

Make the offer -- if he's firm and it's $400 I'd buy it. The older Smiths are bringing top dollar everywhere. I know a lot of the folks on this forum say that $300-350 is max but that's not reality. I'm not sure what's driving the pricing -- a lot of people are looking for them and those that have them are holding them?

Thanks for the input Dragon.

However, you are certainly in the minority, but we all have opinions.
