Question Ahrends Boot Grip for a M 66, 2.5" barrel?

After seeing all the really nice wood grips in my other thread now comes the decision on which size??

I like finger grooves and am not sure if the CC Boot Grip is big enough for a M 66 with 2.5" barrel. If I am going to carry this gun.
I do not want huge grips but also need to be able to hold it. I do not have big mitts.
The round butt combat style look like they would be to large for carry
No one around here carrys any kind of wood grips so I have no way to judge how they (or similar) feel.

Whatcha think?

Default Ahrends boot grips

I have a pair of these on my M64 RB 2". I'm not as impressed with them as I thought I would be when I ordered them. They are a bit too narrow at the butt for my taste but I have large hands and assume there lies the problem.

I have a pair of Craig Spegel's extended boot grips on order for my 2.5 inch M19. You might give him a look.

I thought Spegel folded his business. If he's still producing that's good news.

I had the Ahrends Combat Boot Stocks on my 2 1/2" 66-1 and really liked them. I recently changed to a set of Altamont stocks just because I liked the look a little better. I have medium to large hands (wear large gloves) and had no issues with either of these stocks. Here are a couple of pictures...

My Spegels came in the day after my post. Yep he is still in business and making great looking stocks. I ordered a pair of Ahrends for a N frame. Kim is great to work with, does quality work, and his wood is good looking. My only problem is that his stocks feel slim in my hand, medium to large gloves like above. These Spegels feel great. They fill my hand and give me something to hang on to. These are the extended boot grips. Regular boot grips are 3/8 shorter or even with the bottom of the frame.

I have small-medium sized hands and my 2.5" 66-2 is wearing a set of them now. A bit too small IMO for my 158 gr. Speer GD's magnums, but handle .38 + P's 135 gr. Speer Gold Dot Short Barrels with ease. They make for an EXTREMELY unmakable pair of grips as it dissapears in it's Lobo IWB under a light t-shirt. After packing a Springer or Colt Commander for years I swapped over to the 66 about 6 months ago but ended going back to the Commander as I grew up on a 1911. When I slapped the 66 on for an outing last month the difference between the two in comfort and concealability was remarkable. I've been shooting the heck outta it and doing dry fire drills to get my trigger control back down and now feel 100% confident with the 66 and 2 speed loaders on for SD.

I also have 2 of the larger FG combat grips from Ahrends. They are also great grips and better for a larger handed person or someone shooting magnums out of their snubby. Lightly sanded the FG's down and applied 2 coats of poly. Did the same with the boot grips, but didn't sand them baby butt smooth for a more secure grip. They don't hide as well, but help with magnums. I decided to go with the boot grips as they feel great and make your 66 invisible to prying eyes.

IMO the Boot Grips are outstanding! I absolutely love them and can highly recommend them to anyone with small-medium sized hands and not shooting the snappier .357's.

My computer fried itself and my collection of photos on Photo Bucket are gone, forever(:. Good thing is I still have my Smiths as the pics are replacable. Gotta start afresh which is a good thing as I was posting the same old shots for a long time and have added a few to the collection.

Best of luck on your quest on your grips for that 66. Great revolver for SD! Actually I think it's the best all around revolver ever made for that chore. I have an entire drawer of different grips I've tried through the years. They are the equal to our womens shoes!

Default Ahrends Retro Banana grips in Moradillo

These are the same as retro combat grips but without finger grooves. I also own and like Ahrends boot grips for K and N frame, but prefer the bananas.

I'm thinking of getting some of the Altamont grips MacA has in his second picture for mine. I don't know how they'd feel but they sure look good.

I went back and forth over which stocks to put on a 2 1/2" Model 19. I decided to go with the Ahrends Boots and am very pleased. That said, I am going to order a set of French walnuts from Craig Spegel and then worry about finding a 2 1/2" Model 66 to put them on! Good luck--you can hardly go wrong with what you are looking at!

The 686 is wearing Ahrends Banana grips (like KoiBoy's) that have been shortened and have had the sharp edges rounded. The 66 has Spegel Boot gips..both are very comfortable for my medium size hands
