Model 60, no dash, 2 inch - 1970?
I just bought a model 60, 2 inch Chief that looks to be in great shape. It came with the original numbered box and included the cleaning rod and papers. The box is Bangor/Punta and the SN is R559XX. I think it is a 1970 or so vintage - anyone know for sure? The The frame is marked Mod 60, and there is also a marking on the crane that looks like GS4 and the number 95744.

R30001 to 99999 was 1970 to '73, so 70000 guns were shipped in 4 years. These were very popular guns and probably did not sit long at the factory, so figure it left there about 1/3 of the way into this period, or early-mid 1971.

I also needed help I have a smith & Wesson model 60 no dash stainless steel, 1 7/8 barrel with s/n R 22357 can any one tell the year and value .

Likely shipped in 1969, and figure $450-500 in good used condition. Hope this is helpful.
