Model 64-3 3 inch round butt
I purchased this 3 inch round butt 64-3 at Boise from the BIG MONKEY himself. Smooth combat trigger and very nice trigger pull.

Congrats, that should make a very good carry gun, if you are so inclined.

I have not followed pricing on 3 inch 64 and 65 models. I have watched local shows without much luck in finding any.
This one is in very good shape and price was what I thought it wasworth. I am going to make it a carry piece.

Nice gun! The 3" Model 64 doesn't get a lot of splashy coverage but it is a fine handling gun. Most people shoot 38's out of their 357 anyway.

Nice piece,Toyman. The 3 inch 64's and 65's are probably the most practical wheelies for concealed carry ever made. Everything you need in a defense revolver and nothing you don't. Congrats on the great find.

Nice one Roy, those 3 inchers are handy.
I have 2 currently, both NYPD guns.

I have a 2.5" #66 and 3" HB, RB #64 & #65 that I carry in either the PWL or DeSantis holsters below. The DeSantis conceals well and protects the guns well, but it is no quick-draw rig.

I wanted a 3.0 inch barreled Model 13 or Model 65 for many years. I couldn't ever find either at a reasonable price, and had just about given up hope. Then, I found this 3.0 inch barreled Model 64-5 at a local gun shop at a very good price. A few years later, I found a Model 13-5, and then a Model 65-5 in the same year. Unfortunately, I'm getting old, and I need lasers and/or fiber optic sights anymore. Here are before and after pictures of my Model 64-5 along with my Shooboy Shoo-Hammer used to install the fiber optic sights.
Regards,
Dave

I actually think the 3" 64 (and twin 10) is preferable to the much-coveted 3" 13s and 65s; if you don't care about .357 (and generally I don't), you save a little weight with the smaller cylinder, still have plenty of great defensive rounds to choose from, and will probably pay less.
I've encountered exactly one at local gun shows in the past year; seller wanted $400 out the door. I gave it a full check out and deemed it NRA "very good", but wasn't sure what to call a fair price given I've seen too few to get a sense of market averages.
Its 4" brother in similar condition easily averages around $350 now, and the seeming rarity of the 3" version indicates a higher price, but reasonably how much higher I don't know.

The difference in weight is so minimal, it's not even worth mentioning.

Total weight, agreed -- but sometimes very slight differences in weight distribution have noticeable effects (good or bad) on hand feel for the individual shooter.
This has been my experience with the 10s and 64s versus their 13 and 65 counterparts; the 10s and 64s balance just a little better in my hand -- worth mentioning.

Of all my SW revolvers my 10-5 3" feels the best to me.

There's also the issue of a carbon ring in the chambers if you shoot .38s in a .357. I prefer to shoot .38 Special in anything smaller than an L-Frame.

I was too hasty when I traded off my 65-3, 3". I did not give it enough time. But I got my 1st L Frame out of it. A 586 no dash, 4". I really it enjoy it, and it led to a 686-3, 6".
Maybe another 3" will come my way! Cool 64! I have a 64-3, 4". Bob

Enjoyed my 3" Model 64 so much that I also tracked down a nice 3" Model 10 and 3" Model 65 to go with it. Still looking for an affordable 3" Model 13 to round out the set...
