Default Inexpensive 10-5s and 10-6s

I just wanted to make you all aware in case anybody is interested;

I was in the Cabela's in Allen, Texas a few days ago and they have a batch of 10-5s and 10-6s for either $199 or $219 each.

They have both tapered and heavy barrel - all are 4". All have holster wear etc. So I'm not saying its as super-duper deal or anything. I'm just saying they have a ton of them (they got 80 from some factory security dept) and they checked out tight and they're cheap. Some have scratches, dents, etc.

I looked at several and all appeared fully functional. I have a 64-5 4" HB and a 10-5 tapered barrel 4", so I'm on the fence myself.

I don't work there or anything - I just wanted to make you all aware.

Oh, I asked if they do internet sales and he said they post them on gunsint'l or something, but they rarely get around to posting most of their used guns. But the person I spoke with just happened to be the internet sales guy who was working the counter and he said they do internet sales all the time. I'm guessing you could just call and get it shipped. If anybody learns differently - please post here and let us all know. I browse their gun counter pretty regularly and have gotten some great deals there. So I can go by and ask them if somebody has a specific question.

Edit: the several I saw all had hogue goodyears. Some were rubbed down so bad you couldn't see the original pattern - none that I saw had wood stocks.

Do you think there were any round butts in the mix?

Most of those I looked at were RBs.

I saw these as well, most of them are in really good shape! They have both the Gloss blue and matte blue finished ones.

I think Cabela's will ship from one of their stores to another free of charge. So if you are interested in one of these and live near a Cabela's, you might look into this. For such a low priced gun, they may not bother, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

One of these would be an ideal night stand gun, IMHO.

Thanks Snake. So, you think those matte blue ones came that way? I wasn't aware they were made in matte blue. If that's the case, then, yea, they look great. I thought the shiney blue was worn down on those. Did you also notice they had some with the gold lettering? Of course some knucklehead had carved his initials in the side of that one.

Did you notice the serial numbers? I noticed one or more was D32XXXX which would date it to 69-70. Others were C prefix that could date between 1962-67.

I'll probably go back by and pick one up... I don't have a 4" tapered bbl, 10 with a RB.

I brought home the next to last one Monday night. 10-6 heavy barrel, square butt. Faint turn line, muzzle wear, appears to be rarely fired, only dropped a few times, lol! The staff was really friendly and helpful, even gave me a Bangor Punta box to go with. Sadly, doesn't match the piece, but came out of the batch. Hand written under top lid was "fired 3/75" and "cleaned 7/78" or some such.

Really hate to say this but that crew was more friendly and helpful than my local gun store....chatted with me while waiting for the check to go through, and even threw in a $20 off coupon!

Kudo's all around. I have purchased used firearms from them before, and will do so again.

Yes, it IS my nightstand gun now....

Good for you! And welcome to the forum!

I thought about, went back by there (Weds I think) and they were gone.

Oh well, glad somebody from the forum benefitted. Besides, I already have a 4" 10-5 tapered and a 4" 64-5 HB, so I probably didn't 'need' one.

Just FYI; I've gotten two really good deals there recently; by my guess they were at least 20% below what anybody else charges. Likewise, apparently, on this batch of Model 10's. Great guns too!

$200 Model 10's in any condition ain't going to last long!

Half of them are probably on tables at gun shows for $350 right now

Sorry? What's "need" got to do with it?
