I am picking up this model 10-5 next pay period and was curious about what appears to be "DSC Prescott AZ" underneath the cylinder.
It looks too faint to have been stamped so my ignorant guess is electro pen.
It doesn't bother me since this gun will likely see a duracoat, cerakote or gunkote finishing and spend most it's life in my glovebox.
Out of curiosity, I wanted to see if anyone had seen this marking before. I had seen another on a similar model 10 a year or so back.
Does anyone know what it stands for?
I was thinking Department of State Corrections possibly since the gun has tons of holster wear but was shot very little.

Some sort of departmental marking. I have FHP for Florida Highway Patrol and CCPD for Corpus Christi Police Dept. so maybe a Phoenix based member can ID what DSC means. It's surely "Department of Something." Maybe Social Discipline? Or is that too Orwellian?

Hmm, interesting. Not interesting enough to keep me from covering it with duracoat though.

Probably not electro pen.

Looks like either laser marking or electro-chemical etch using a stencil.

And Yes, you can electro chemical etch a blued gun; we mark black oxided gears by that method.

It does seem too neat compared to most electro pen looking back.
Then again I am not familiar with any stamping methods so I was only spitballing.
At any rate it probably won't stay on my gun if it is just a Davidson's mark.

Got this off The High Road forum:

I obtained a Stainless GP100 3" half shroud yesterday...clean and oft-fired...very little metal wear...it also has the DSC PRESCOTT AZ mentioned twice above on the left frame...I called Ruger who told me mine was shipped to a dealer in Dec 90 uninscribed...I got to thinking and researched Prescott gun stores...guess who I found...Davidson's...the CS lady said that yes, looooooooooong ago:) they used to mark their special order and some regular guns with that inscription...mystery solved...

...since finding that out...I've found numerous other references to DSC markings on the web..."

My vote is for importer's required marking. The DSC Arms, Inc. web site says the copyright owner is Davidson's in Prescott, AZ, and the web address is:

DSC Arms Inc.

Note the web address says "davidsonsinc" as part of the address. Coincidence?
