Friend has a S&W Model 10, marked 357 Magnum

Friend called me today and told me he had a Model 10, with a barrel marked 357 Magnum. He claims the cylinder is chambered for 357 Magnum. He will be to see me next week to look at the oddity. Anyone heard or seen a Model 10 in this configuration?

I immediately said that it was a Model 13, he said no it is marked Model 10. He also said that the revolver is in like new condition.

if i remember correctly, before there was the model 13, some state police asked for a run chambered in 357. i think they were listed as model 10-6

From page 206 of the SCSW 4th edition: .357 Magnum: Around 3000 model 10-6s were made in .357 Magnum, including around 1200 for the NYSP.

As two above stated the Model 10-6, which was the precursor to the Model 13, is the Model 10 that was chambered for .357 Magnum. It is in no way an "oddity".
