Default 1969 38 S&W Special CTG

I have taken a photograph of the gun that I purchased at a local gun store in Johnson City, Tennessee several years ago.

The serial number is D1276xx; MOD 10-5, 43148, L

I am interested in determining the age and value of the gun.

What does the prefix "D" stand for in the serial number and info on model number.

I have two other S&W pistols and will be posting them in another message.

Thanks in advance.
CB

Looked it up in the Standard Catalog.
I would say 1969 but could be start of 1970.
But you ak the age and start the thread with 1969?

Maybe the inquiry about age was just to verify info received elsewhere?

The "D" is simply the next sequence of serial numbers applied to these guns after the "C" series. There is no meaning to it beyond that. As to value, assuming the gun is OK mechanically, I would expect to see the gun you have sold privately for $200 - $250 in my neck of the woods. At retail, it might bring a bit more.
