Model 38 Airweight Date and Value

Stopped by my LGS today and they had just got in a nice Model 38 Airweight in about 98% condition. No bluing loss, minor scratching on cylinder. Serial number is 32J563. No box, stocks appear correct but I did not remove them. They're at $500 which I think is too high. What's the ship date and value on this one?

Any thought on date and value. I can't seem to find the date in the catalog.

1971-72, the years of the "floating J" serial numbers.

I would have a hard time passing up a M-38 in that condition, even at $500. But then I'm addicted to Js. Is that price etched in stone, no wiggle room for cash? Can't hurt to ask.

You may want to rethink that and go buy it.. i was watching this one on gunbroker and not as nice as the one you posted and it's not pinned barrel, no box .just the gun. $671 not counting shipping and FFL fee.

A model 38 from the early 70s in 98% condition for $500 is a deal I probably would have taken.
