Smith & Wesson 38 Special Ctg. manufacture date
I am trying to determine when the Smith & Wesson 38 Special Ctg. that I recently purchased was made. Model 64-3. Barrel length 4 inches. Serial number “AWZ6106” appears on the metal portion of the gun butt. “38 S. & W. SPECIAL CTG.” appears on the right side of the barrel. On the right side of the frame below the cylinder in front of the trigger is:
“MADE IN THE U.S.A.
MARCAS REGISTRADAS
SMITH & WESSON
SPRINGFIELD, MASS”.
“SMITH & WESSON” is on the left side of the barrel. The Smith & Wesson trademark is on the left side of the frame. When the cylinder is open, “G22” and “77633” are visible. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum.
According to the Catalog, your revolver was made in 1987.

Thanks. I thought that it was older than that.

"Ctg" is an abbreviation for the word "cartridge."
I am guessing, but ship date probably late 1980s, based upon 3 alpha, 4 numeral serial number.
The other letters and numbers visible when you open the cylinder are factory assembly numbers and mean nothing. The official serial number of an S&W revolver is on the butt of the revolver.

Better to start your own new thread.
Based just on the serial, it’s a Victory model from early fall 1942. For more, we need more info on caliber stamping, barrel length, etc., and maybe some photos.
