In the movie what model did Dirty Harry carry? Was it a 29-2? I know it was 6 1/2 inches.

There is a lot of controversy regarding which gun he carried. Most believe it was a 29-2, but there's also a myth it was a Model 57 in .41 magnum. People debate this just like they debate which is better "9mm or .45".

I just read all the other threads, thanks everyone.

I kinda always hoped it was a 29-2.

Hmmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,;)

In one of Skeeter Skeltons articles on the .44 Magnum he states the producers were having trouble finding a M29 for the movie. He said Archie Dubia, who worked for S&W, personally assembled one from parts for the movie.

Which dash variation did he use in Sudden Impact?
I recall reading that he did NOT like the Auto Mag used in that one.
Something about reliability issues that made him an unhappy camper.

Have there ever been any better movies than the Dirty Harry franchise?
They are some of my favorites.
Those, and any other movies where Clint is slinging lead.

The 29 was not hard to find when they made the film. It was hard to find AFTER they released the film. Get it?

John Milius helped write the screenplay and has written articles on the 29-2s (a pair of them) used in the filming. One was given to him by the studio and has been pictured in gun magazines. It is indeed a 6.5" M29-2.

I always wondered if it was a 4 screw, but knowing it was a 29-2 is great!

Mine is an "S" s/n dating to late '66, early '67.

My 29-2 6 1/2 inch barrel was born on Dec 20th 1976. Two days before the Enforcer was released to the public. My 29-2 was sent to Hayward California, south of San Francisco. Yes I do shoot it but not a lot. It is just so nice to shoot.

Well if we are gonna be that technical, I'm pretty sure Harry carried HKS, not Safariland, as in the photo. :) Nice revolver!!

Lol....A man has to know his limitations.. I find it amazing.. after all this time The 44 magnum is still popular because of Clint Eastwood....

It's a big departure from the real deal (Dirty Harry), but I just bought a 4" 29-10 a few days ago. S&W needs to pay Eastwood a commission.

Surprisingly, I have yet to quote any Dirty Harry lines while holding it.

If i'm not mistaken I believe he actually carried Dade speedloaders. I might be wrong but in Magnum Force I swear I can remember him pulling them out with Tyne Daly and I couldn't make out the infamous HKS "knob".
