Default 25-2 45acp

Just got a 25-2 target model 1955. It shoots too high even with sight cranked all the way down. Any suggestions? Thanks

Suggest you obtain sharpshooter match quality .45 ACP and reassess point-of-aim to point-of-impact with that before determining it's a revolver issue.

Also, consider having a competent, trusted second shooter shoot with it to see if this isn't a user issue.

Lastly, ransom rest.

What ammo are you using? Most target guns are set up for a relatively slow round and hot ammo may shoot high.

You might also check the height of the rear sight blade, someone may have put a taller one in there somewhere along the line.

Good luck!

I had the same problem with mine, even 200 grain bullets were impacting too high. I bought a replacement rear sight blade from Brownell's and replaced it myself. Now it works fine.

My 25-2 does the same thing. Its my understanding that the guns sights are registered for 185 grain SWC bullets.

Most are set up for a 6 o'clock hold. That puts you about 4" high at 25 yards.

Your gun may have other issues that need attention, but I can tell you this for sure, if you aren't careful about where you rest a handgun, or how, when shooting from sandbags or any other form of rest, the gun can shoot way high due to recoiling up off the bags.

Try shooting it with your wrists rested on the bags and your actual hands and the pistols grip just out past the bags. I have seen that bring more than one gun down onto POA .

If you really need to rest the gun itself to do your best work, rest only the small flat on the bottom of the frame right in front of the trigger guard on the rest, and no more.

My 25-2 did the same thing, shoot high with 200gr SWC's, I changed my rear sight blade from a .160 blade to a .126 w/o blade, fixed my problem.

According to my S&W parts book from 1985 a model 25, .45 ACP, should have a .146" high rear sight blade. I hope this will help you.
Happy New Year;
Mike
