Chance to buy Mod.28-2
Local dealer has a real nice Mod. 28-2, 6 inch, for sale at $575. Very little use, finish very nice (95%), small chip on left grip at the butt. I currently have a K38 6in., a K22 6in and a 19-3 2.5 inch. This would be my first N frame. Any opinions on price?
Thanks, new guy to the Forum.

Price probably reasonable -- not high, not low. I paid $550 a few months ago, but mine came with an old set of Pachmayrs.
I predict you will like it a lot if you buy it.

may be a little high, not bad enough to keep from buying it. HP's seem to be going up at a good rate and by this time next year that may look like a good deal.

Welcome to the Forum.
The Highway Patrolman is a great revolver. A few years ago they were fairly inexpensive. Lately the prices have skyrocketed. The 4" ones are more in demand, but the 6" ones are still highly collectable.
If it were me I would offer $500.
All they can do is say no.

Don't let $50 dollars prevent you from owning one in nice condition if you really want one. Offer them $550 otd (out the door). If they balk try to get it at the asking price with them paying the tax. That works for me somethime.

I just picked up an immaculate 28-2 with a 6" bbl for just over $500 OTD.
I absolutely love it! It fires the spunkiest of 357 mags with uncanny smoothness.
Old P&R Smiths just seem to be going up and up and up in price.
If you pass it up now, you may regret it in a couple of years as others have said.

I sold my 6 inch 28-2 a year ago and it's a revolver I miss because it was a great range gun. I kept an S serial numbered 4 inch 28-2 in 96% condition and it's also a great shooter but not quite as nice as the 6 inch I had.
Yup, a couple of years ago 28-2's were in the $400 dollar range when compared to where they are now and they seem to be rising steadily.
Great classic N frame and it will spoil you and make you want more N frames.

You might be able to shop around and find one for a little less, but not much. And, they are getting harder to come by. I'd pay that much for a 4" -3 (rounding up my collection). -3s used to be hard to sell.
I picked up my 90% 1955 HP a couple years ago for 350 OTD. You'd be lucky to find one even close to that any more!

Bought the gun! Paid $550 for it. Fired 30rds. of .38 SWC (my reloads) just for function. Nice smooth action both single and double action.
Ser. #N555xxx. any idea of year?
Thanks everyone for your input.

BUT - now you need a 4" for everything to be in harmony.
