Default Sold for $4,023

Here is the closed GB auction number: 410049148

Evidently, how the gun was photographed with the claim of a "perfect" example drove the market on this piece. Three bidders at over $3500. Appears he had a 27-2 4" blue that brought $2825. Seller obviously knows what he is doing. It would be worth while to hire the seller to market your guns when you sell them!

Can anyone post the link to it?

I can't find it, and I'd like to look at the ad.

Why oh why must you taunt me. I want a 5" 27-2 in nickel. Had one on the hook and he backed out went to a local buyer... The agony. Oh, he wanted $500. There I have admitted the one that got away - haunting me to this day, presentation box, tools, papers. And this thread is not making me feel any better about it.

Are 5" nickel 27-2s rare, or what? It would be interesting to compare the number of them to the number of 6" nickel 27-2s. I understand that there were a lot of 6" guns made, but how many were there in nickel?

The 5" and 3.5" models were available until the late 1970's, when the 4" model replaced them both. From my readings, the nickel finishes on the Model 27's are a bit more scarce than the blued models. 6" Models were catalogued after about 1967, replacing the 6.5" model.

While the nickel finish is more rare, the price this revolver brought is in the rarefied atmosphere of 3" Combat Pythons.

If someone with a 5" nickel Model 27 wants to make money, contact the losing bidder, and see if he'll pay you $4K for yours.

This is a joke. No way that gun is worth 4 grand. Congrats to the SWCA Member who sold it on GB.

But this is crazy. That gun is worth 1250 tops!! No box. No paperwork. Unreal.

Diamond's been putting up a good many quality guns recently, but this selling price is just off the scale. Simply ridiculous, in my opinion. No way I'd give over 4K for a 27.

I already knew who the Seller was before I even clicked the link......Another one will sell Within a week for $3,000 less.If people actually pay for this stuff they are out of their mind!!

Dennis the B-The losing bidder will not pay anywhere near that,The next one that comes up he won't even bid on.I have seen this same thing more times than I can count.Trying to figure these people out makes my head hurt,So now all I do is shake it.....

Yup, Diamond firearms strikes again.

They get minty N Frames and clean them all up, and make sure they have all of the acoutremonts with it. Box papers, cleaning kit...

Still 4Gs for a 5" is crazy, borderline idiotic.

Keeps life interesting I guess.

It is beautiful, it's clean as a whistle, but it's not perfect, and for the price it ended up going for, not only should it be a 99.99% gun! but it also needed to have been Chuck Norris's gun or something like that.

WOW, you guys are harsh. I was just getting ready to accept a $4000.00 offer for mine. [NOT REALLY] If anybody wants one that bad they can buy from me knowing I want "judge" them for spending to much of their own money. HECK, I'll even ship for free. [REALLY]

The list of bidders shows two individuals went after this 27-2. This situation usually results in a high priced sale for the seller. If the buyer is happy, that is all that really matters.

The problem is a bunch of potential sellers see that astronomical price and figure the guns they want to sell are also worth that much. Now you can expect to see 27s with 2K starting prices and reserves at $3,500.

That is exactly right. That's how Smiths got to where they are now. Same with factory grips, papers, boxes, etc. There's an ebay guy who wants $325 for some target grips. He won't get it (for awhile) but suddenly what was $75 (a LOT) turned ito $125, $175, and up.

Exactly and the other thing is the buyer might have been at it for a while for this one model in this configuration... I have a pre 27 but the one gun I can't find in 98% pand complete plus at an even close to reasonable price is a 27-2 any configuration.. Maybe it was timing for the buyer in this case and it just had to happen for him... I am not ashamed to say I have overbid many times in the last year and most if not all are more valuable that when I bought them.. Spoke to another Cali guy today One of our circle owns a California Combat recently purchased it (good price confidential).. The gun is probably in the time capsule condition worth 10k.. Crazy right? I believe he is getting offers in the 12k to 14k range.. ???? Herd to get ones head around it right?

I've noticed that there's a few sellers on GB that constantly get more than the going rate for their guns. Have not figured out the exact why??? Don't think it could be on reputation alone. They all seem to be really good photographers and write excellent descriptions.

It's possible they have a couple shill bidders running up the price. That seller is just down the road from me, I would love to stop in sometime of they happen to have a store front.
I see a lot of very high quality guns for sale locally. Southern Arizona has a high concentration of retirees and either through estate sales or just the need to raise some funds, many fine pieces end up on the market. It looks like this seller has tapped into that source.

I have observed that top dollar seems to go to those sellers who:
1. Post lots of quality pictures, plus a few more for good measure.
2. Start the open bidding at $1 with no reserve.
3. Frequently sell lots of guns with very high positive customer feedback
4. Know exactly what they are selling and completely communicate the product to the potential customers with no surprises.

Im not so sure about #4. Some of the highest sale prices recently have been accompanied by some creative prose. I've seen some very well and deliberately crafted and technically accurate descriptions used in a very clever way to skirt the truth. For instance calling the stocks "original factory woods grips". This would lead many to assume that the grips are correct to the gun, but it doesn't say that. It says original factory. That just means they came from the factory on some gun not necessarily the gun being sold. Same shady type descriptions can and have been used to describe the tools and case. Some poor soul thinks he's buying a mint all original gun with tools and presentations case and what he actually gets is a mixed bag of mismatched pieces spanning 2-3 decades.

And I thought I paid too much for some of my guns. Auctions, live or internet, seem to be driven at times by emotions.

I think I'll clean up my 6" nickel 27-2 and list it as a rare model with 5" + 1" barrel. Good pictures included, of course.

Yes, but the 6" - 1" is even more rare.

I bought a 4" 27-2 from this same guy. He is a super nice guy and was a pleasure to deal with. He has a TON of smiths that are mostly in mint condition. I hate to see prices reaching this level, but we are our own worst enemy, the consumer.

I wouldn't part with my m27-2 6" that's 99.99% in nickel for $2,000, well $2001 maybe, NOT. She has an eveil twin in blue. When I'm on my death bed I can still fondle them....

I got into this game late and I cherish everyone of them. I'm so sorry guys every new hobby I get into the cost seems to skyrocket soon after I'm cursed.

For a 3 screw, without a box????
I guess that's what happens when you give institutionalized people access to computers.

Default Model 27-2 Nickel w/ 5" on GB

Blame it on the baby boomers.

77 million people were born between 1946 and 1964, which is defined as the baby boomer era. Interpret this as desire for 5 screw P&R artifacts of their youth.

The first baby boomer turned 65 on January 1, 2011. An American turns 50 y/o every 7 seconds—that's more than 12,500 people every day.

The 55+ age group controls more than 3/4ths of America's wealth. 78 million Americans who were 50 or older control 67% of the country's wealth, or $28 trillion.

Boomers' have an average annual disposable income of $24,000. The + 50 y/o crowd have $2.4 trillion in annual income, which accounts for 42% of all U.S. after-tax income.

Well, as one of the bidders on the engraved 57s, I will say that I haven't seen factory engraved 4" 57s often. The final prices, however, were a wee bit out of my range. OTOH, failing to win either of those safe queens did allow me to pick up a pair of clean 98%+ 57s for less than either of those went for. Both are en route to my gunsmith for a inspect & clean.

I just attempted to read and make sense of the seller’s description. All I got was a lot of repetitive flim-flam. That description really set of my bravo sierra alarms.

I am the first to say "Buy once and keep a lifetime".. It is clear the buyer really wanted the gun and congrats to seller for the high number. If it was my money it would go toward a K32 but if the buyer is happy terrific.. I just spent half on a 1951 Government 1911 and with a few hundred as a package more a Remington 51 both with boxes yesterday from all places a LGS and I am in Cali!!. It makes me wonder..

Sorry about going to the dark side for pix.. Proof I wasn't kidding relative to dollar value and condition and numbers... After all bigl"1911"..

You know what REALLY bums me out. A couple times lately I have gone into my favorite pawn shop and started talking to one of my ol familiar sales guys about a gun, testing the waters seeing what kind of prices are possible, wait, out comes the lap top and they start quoting gunbroker prices!! ARGHH!!

The worst part is that they look at the overpriced guns that nobody bids on as a guide.

Of course, I have bought some guns that Pawn Shops have miss-judged. While they are usually adept at checking the model number, they seem oblivious to condition, grips and barrel length (usually bad for us). This year, I bought a 2 3/4" Ruger Speed Six for about what a 4" police trade-in would cost (later traded it even for a nickle Colt DS 2nd model).

Somewhere right now, there is a pawn shop manager who cannot tell a 4" Heavy Duty from a pre-model 10. I check these places frequently, although it is rare to stumble accross a good deal.

He's got stones, calling the turn line in pic #4 and the ill-fitting right panel in pic #12 'perfect.'

Well it could have been worse: somebody dumped $4600 on a fake 2" Victory model at the May Rock Island Auction.

I almost wonder sometimes if money launderers don't overbid on friend's auctions to hide the true source of income.
