I am having a problem seeing clearly the front red insert sight on my Model 29 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. I don't have the same problem with a round bead front sigh on my target pistol. Can a different sight such as a light gathering type be installed?
I haven't seen the front sight on my revolvers in years. That's the reason I've put red dots on my semi-autos and any revolver that came from the factory drilled and tapped. The ones that didn't just get fondled and rewaxed until I can either force myself to sell them or give them to family.
The red ramp front sight blade on your 29-2 is most likely pinned to the ramp base with a single pin although the pin may be hard to see. Removing this pin will allow you to replace the red ramp with a sight better suited to your vision.
Had the same issue with my 29-2.
Shot silhouette matches with it back in the day.
That red sight just washed away in bright sunlight.
A quick swap to a patridge front sight (pinned in) fixed the deal.
After the gun was nearly worn out, I shipped it to S&W for a complete overhaul.
Directed that they not touch the front sight.
