Butt Caps?
This might not be the correct term or sub forum, so my apologies.
Does anyone know of a source for butt caps/plates that screw onto the bottom of target grips? I have seen a few pictures of revolvers with this accessory and I think it adds a nice touch. Also would help prevent the stocks getting chipped.

I have seen them on a few police guns. Have you tried to Google it? Try grip butt caps and see if that works.

Butt caps
I know around here there were tossed by the PD's that had them as they were considered head knockers.
I have looked before As I have grips with the holes but no caps with a shield for them.
good luck

I don't think any are commercially available, but can be easily fashioned from 1/8" to 3/16" sheet stock. I've seen them in steel, aluminum, and brass. Make a nice project for you.

Those Bear Butt caps are the nicest I've seen. Joe Salter has a set of factory N-frame target stocks with a Bear Butt USMC cap for sale at his site.

You don't want to know what a search with the key words "grip" "butt" and "caps" pulls up.

This is from a resent thread about Stag Horn grips. A great added detail.

I snagged these Nframe skull crackers for a song. Thought I'd turn them into something, someday.

I bought these grips off of ebay a couple of years ago. They are modified Herrett . I refinished them, and buffed the heck out of the homemade plate that someone had fabricated. Just a cool look in my book. Bob

Don't be so sure of that, although I suspect posting the results on this forum would be unwise.

Arnold Griebel
In the mid sixties the well known engraver, Arnold Griebel made engraved Butt Caps for the S&W K frames. They were beautifully made and if my memory serves me to be correct, (doubtful), they were about $65.00. In this time frame the list price of the Combat Magnum was $110.00.

Here's one.
These were very popular in Alabama with police officers and sheriff's deputies in the '70s-'80s. Most were thicker, up to 1/4".

There is a S&W 27 on GB that has the neatest engraved butt cap on it that I have seen. I would have to change my name to D. E. Culver though.

I had a jeweler make a sterling silver buttcap for my first M19 4" in 1969. He charged me $55 and it had no visible mounting screws. I sold the gun with the silver cap in '72. Young & dumb.

Actually, us old time coppers didn't put those plates on our stocks to crack noggins. They were to keep the stocks from chipping/splintering as we got in and out of the cars so often.
Anyway, it was the barrel you laid upside some miscreant's melon, not the grip.

Butt Caps
Another reason for having them on your service revolver would be to prevent the seat belts in the late 70's or early 80's police cars, from scratching up the bottom of the grips. Seat belts could ruin a nice set of grips in a hurry

The officers that put these on their guns usually were carrying their own personal guns that were approved for duty. These grip plates were to protect the grips from banging on the scout car doors and such and also to add a touch of personality to their weapons.
Those kind of officers knew better than to use their expensive personal gun for a club as we were allowed to carry clubs and saps back then anyway.

Not that I've ever received or administered a blue shampoo but wouldn't snacking a barrel on somebody possibly damage it or the ejector rod ? I think using a cap on the grip or trigger guard would be less harmful to the gun
Anyway the real purpose for those metal grip caps was for tacking up wanted posters...Everybody knows that
