Aaron
It appears to be a Pre-Model 31. There should be a screw in the trigger guard. Check the barrel length again, it may be 4 1/4", check from the face of the cylinder. I'm guessing shipped early 1950's. Overall a very nice revolver.

My dad was 50 when he passed and he got it from his dad when he passed. When he gave me the gun he had told me it was his dad's dad. I'll measure it tomorrow and check for the screw.

What you appear to have was called at the time the ".32 Regulation Police," built on the old-style I-frame. It was listed with 3-1/4, 4-3/4, and 6-inch barrel lengths, so you may wish to re-measure the barrel length on yours. It is measured from the front face of the cylinder to the muzzle. The SN on yours (653158) indicates that production in 1956 is probable. I list one with SN 638xxx which was shipped in 5/56. It became the Model 31 in 1957, and those revolvers produced thereafter would have the Model number stamped in the yoke area of the frame.

It looks to me like a .32 Hand Ejector, rather than a Regulation Police. A RP would have a square butt rather than the round butt that the pistol shown has.

I agree with Skeetr57. Your gun is a post-war pre-model 30, otherwise known as the .32 hand ejector because it has a round butt. The model 31 or .32 regulation police is a square butt. It appears to be a 4 1/4" barrel. The barrel lengths were not standardized a 2", 3" and 4" until the change to the J-frame in 1961. It looks like its in beautiful shape. Sorry to hear about your dad. He left you a beautiful gun.
