Hello,

This pistol is gathering dust and I'm wanting to sell it. However I've no idea of the value or current selling value of this pistol. From my inexperienced view it's in very nice condition. I don't believe the grips are correct. Very nice trigger pull in both double and single action. I've personnally not shot it very much. It's very accurate and a real pleasure to shoot.

Caliber 38 Special. Barrel length measured from the front of the frame is 5". Model 14-2, serial is 570669. Please look at the picture as I think there may be a K in front of the serial number.

Thanks for any and all help with my search for information. The forum is such a wonderful venue for information on S&W firearms.

Lee

I'm going to take a SWAG and say between $325 and $375. There seems to be regional variations in prices though. You might have others say up to $450. I sold an older one in similar condition a few months ago (on Gunbroker) and was surprised to get less than $300 for it. I had bought it for $325 a few years before and thought I had gotten a good deal. I recently purchased one in 99-100% condition for $500. I hope that helps you.

Oh - looks like a 1964 date of manufacture, so it might help price in being able to sell as a Curio & Relic.
Regards,
Jim

Not so quick. I am always on the lookout for a decent shooter grade M14-? and I am located in Central Oregon and have to rely on GB, GI, and GA and have never seen a M14 in this condition sell for much under $500 so I have to respectfully disagree. From the last purchase of a 95% M66-4 2-1/2" for a unheard price of $500 on Guns America from a Texas Pawn Shop named Plano Pawn, I was able to share and receive some information and found there are far more used guns available. The bottom line as noted by the others comment about the value of a used revolver being regionally a factor couldn't be more true from my experience. I couldn't help but check where Jim resides and lo and behold he's from Texas. I am glad I didn't see his M14 for sale on GB or for the price it sold I might now own two. I wouldn't say that is the typical price I have found them to be at auction but some good offerings do slip through the cracks occasionally.
I think by listing on one of the major auction sites you can benefit by eliminating the regional factor. You also have the ability to check the completed sales whether you use the site or not and bottom line, never list a gun with a starting price for less than you will be happy with, if you only have one bid and they walk away with it for your minimum price you won't feel any remorse. I state this from experience unfortunately after realizing that penny auctions are for listings that are for greatly sought after guns.
Good Luck

Having factory target grips on it or not can make all the difference in what it's worth. This is because target grips from that era by themselves (off the gun) can be worth anywhere from $125 on up to obscene amounts. And target diamond grips were often found on early '60's model 14's. That gun has non original grips, so that will be a factor.

I just so happen to have a 14 no dash I was thinking about selling local shop with pachmyars on it, and we're going to ask just under 400 bucks for it. But i definitely can see where it would bring more in other markets. As they say, it's worth whatever anyone will pay.

Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate this. It's nice to be able to avail myself with folks who have been in this position and who share their experience. Please add more if you'd like I'll bet I'm not the only one who would benefit from this.

So thanks very much!!

625Smith - I notice that it has been listed in the classified section...

Yes I did list it here. What better place to see it sold.
When I place the add last night I asked for 500. When I woke up this morning I though that if expected any interest 450 would be a more reasonable price.
