I have a model 17-2 I picked up a couple years ago, serial number K6589** puts it right at the end of 1965. It is wearing a set of non-relieved checkered diamond targets with the S&W medallion and black washers. They are in very good condition with a few slight dimples from cartridge ejection and the right side has what seems to be a very small sliver of wood about 1/2" long missing from the edge of the checkering (photos attached). I have heard these stocks could have some value due to their vintage and am considering selling them and getting period correct (diamond magnas? I assume) to dress it properly.
Would it be worth the effort or does the gun have more value as it is now?
I appreciate your insights.
Edit to add photos:
Pistol is in excellent condition, not an expert but I would say the finish is 95-97%, function is smooth and tight.
