Default trigger stop an extra cost option?

There is a M-19 for sale on Gunbroker. The seller has listed that it is equipped with the "RARE trigger stop option". He shows a small slip of paper referencing the stop as an option. He claims that the paper is from the factory.

I have NEVER in forty five years of being an S&W fan seen that piece of paper. Or heard of the trigger stop as a rare option.

I just looked at a bunch of M-19s on GB and it looks like the the dash 2, 3, and 4 have the trigger stops the dash 5s and 6s have the slot milled in the frame but no stop I don't know if the frame is tapped for the adjustment screw. The dash 7 has no cut out for the stop.

SCS&W states an optional trigger stop was available with the wide trigger. I have a -4 with TT and stop.

We can't link to auctions, but the seller has a slip of paper shown with some info regarding the factory installed trigger stop. Simply wondering if that's a Factory paper or is he embellishing the sale?

Seems EVERYTHING on Gunbroker is RARE. LOL.

I think the paper was meant to be a"Warning". The Trigger Stop or "over-travel Stop" can come loose and move and tie the action up not allowing the trigger to move all the way to fire. Most police agencies had them removed as a safety measure. If the seller is trying to push this a a "rare" enhancement, he is blowing smoke.

Default Model 19, with a trigger stop.

In May of 1971 I purchased a new model 19, that came with the trigger stop. A year or so later they issued a recall on police guns and stopped installing the stop,. I just removed my stop and later sold the gun for a new model 66. I just checked the 66 (no dash) and the area behind the trigger is cut out for a stop but I can't remember if it came with one or not. I checked my S & W parts box but no envelope with a trigger stop. I suspect that it didn't come with one.

Hey guys, I just got a 19-3 that was exhibiting trigger lock.

You can read my thread here:

M19-3 trigger issue

But, on it, SpartanDC shared this link:

Firearm Recalls and Safety Warnings- FirearmsID.com

Bottom of the page.

Perhaps the person selling the revolver sent it back for the "new design trigger stop" installation and that is what the letter is about.

If I recall correctly, that "redesigned" trigger stop is a solid pin installed inside the rebound slide spring, that limits the travel.

I have seen the paper regarding the trigger stop with a couple of model 66's. It said that it was a factory option.

Interesting, my 66 no dash has a stop and my 13-3 has a pin in the return spring. I didn't know what the pin was there for so I just left it there, good thing I guess. LOL

Not if I'm buying it. I'm buying a used gun. Whatever it has or doesn't have is just "the gun." It's a "that's nice" item, but I wouldn't pay a penny more for it than the gun next to it that doesn't have it.

I have two Model 66s, The 1972 has a trigger stop the 1976 doesn't. I've heard most police departments had them removed.

Years ago (late 1970's) my department had all the stops removed from their revolvers - Model 15 and Model 66. Later when working at a gun shop we routinely took out all the trigger "over travel" bits and tossed them. We saved the screws as they were the same screw as the one that held in the rear sight.

A few weeks ago I bought a couple of old revolvers from a friend that had been kept in a box for a Model 19. Rolling around in the bottom of the box was the over travel stop and screw. Just for fun I put them in my favorite K-22. Seems that the K-22 is more complete now!

When I was a LEO armorer, I recall getting a letter from S&W advising to remove all trigger stops from LEO guns (slot type) due to potential loosening and creating a gun malfunction.

I adjust my trigger over travel devices all the way forward. If the hammer drops there will never be a problem, even if it shoots loose. If under the forward position, it prevents the hammer from dropping just take off enough metal until it does. I've never had one that had to be filed. It is a mythical problem that really did not exist if the above steps are followed. If not followed I guess there might be a problem.

I have a Model 13-1 with the standard hammer and trigger and it does not have the stop nor was the frame cut for it. It is a 4" bbl. factory nickeled model.
