This young fella, as a rookie cop in 71, was issued the S&W Model 10-5 as his duty arm. Some 43+years later, a Model 10 is still serving his interests as he has 'still' not retired yet. This old deputy is a Reserve Deputy part-time and a full time deputy in a local Hospital Security as the Lt. of the Security Department. Those are his two jobs after his retirement from police work in 92. He says that, "work keeps him young!" He never transitioned over to the pistol and was sort of grand-fathered in with his Colt Official Police, with this 4-inch Heavy Barrel Model 10-6 (D59147X) as his secondary. Today, this same senior lawman engaged in the monthly service pistol match that is put on by the local PD. He had a 'great' day gunning down the young pistol-packers of the PD with his vintage, parkerized Model 10-6, outfitted with black rubber Hogue Grips. The Glock 21 of the Sheriff's Office and the S&W M&P .45 Pistol of the PD had a strong presence today but fell under the old mans straight-shooting heavy barrel Model 10. He managed a "461" with 24 X's to place "FIRST" overall and left the range with precious "bragging rights" and the much coveted little "Overall Winner" shooting trophy seen in photo. The senior Reserve Deputy hadn't had a good shooting day in a while. But today, for a short period of precious time, his eyes was clear, his hands didn't shake, and his groups was close. He was a 20-something instead of his normal 60-something, he had managed to step back to a time in his past, when all his bodily hydraulics were on line and functioning well. The old cop had a great day, one he hadn't had in some time. His body is compromised from age and hard cop wear and tear. He, very respectfully, asks for his friends prayers as he struggles to get in formation each morning. Thank you so much as I pray the Model 10 fans enjoy this story.

Five star post from what is obviously a ten star public servant. I heard a commentator speaking one time about how as we lay asleep at night in our beds, we have people out landing jets on aircraft carriers that are pitching and bouncing in the sea. Others are standing their posts in some of the most dangerous places on the face of the earth. And we have so many at home protecting and serving our communities.

This is a LEO that should be held up as an example to every other LEO serving us. I bet your Sheriff and that hospital where you work thank the lord daily for having you on the team. What a positive and uplifting attitude on display here.

I'm proud for him!! Think about it for a minute.. An "Old Man" and his old wheel gun against a bunch of young whippersnapper's armed with some of best semi auto's made today.. And it sounds like he not only beat them..
He SPANKED them!!!!!! :D :D :D

There is a God!!!!!! ;) :D

This is awesome on so many levels. I had a similar day earlier this year when I caught lightning in a bottle with my six inch 686 against a much stronger field of firearms. In theory. :D

Thanks so much my friends! The words, each of your spoke, uplifted me and I had a 'pep-to-my-step' this morning as I walked into Fort Apache (Health & Human Services Bldg. ajacent to the Hospital) and reported for duty. For a while, I have competed/practice much getting ready for the up-coming Sheriff's Office Qualification this month. I just hope/pray that I can still master it with this same 'trusty' six-shot wheelgun used yesterday, the Model 10-6. I got two agencies I qualify with and this time (gulp!) it is with SO. The State course of fire is 'supposed' to be revolver friendly for the dinosaurs, like myself, still packing a wheelgun. It is NOT! The reload portion of the course tilts terribly towards the magazine fed shooters. It reminds one of the old story of "John Henry" with his sledge hammer (Model 10) and chisel going up against the power drill. The old six-shot .38, in trained hands, will hold its own against the polymer pistol gang! I'm the very 'last' of the revolver carriers here and have been for some time. Thank you again my friends for the very up-lifting words you gave me. I am and always will be, your obedient servant and friend!
