I finally have a no dash, 4 inch 629 but I am unsure that the Stocks are correct. It came with the small "football" cut outs and it seems to me that they may be earlier than the Gun. I am not sure but should not the Stocks be the later kind with the much larger relieved cut out? Any help will be much appreciated

Congratulations! All the early model 629s I have seen had the stocks you describe. A Forum search (using the Google Custom feature) should show you plenty of photos.
