I've had 2-3 Model 37s, though none at the moment. I consider them a great carry gun in the "shoot a little, carry a lot" mold. Always check the frame under the barrel on airweights for cracks, though that seems to be more of an issue on the newer guns. Wouldn't mind having another 37 to go with my half dozen 36s.

The newer ones have the model number 637, but it's still the same general gun. I have a nickel 37 that's a great concealed weapon, light and accurate.

I carry an older model 37 every day.
I like them, even have a cleaner one with stags I can wear on Sundays!

Have a nickel 37. Carried a bunch in the plate pocket of my vest. Carried it a lot in ccw mode. It will not be sold by me.

I've had a couple. The more common 2 inch round butt version I still have. The three inch square butt one got appropriated by the ex. A very pleasant shooter that extra inch was worthwhile.

Had an old model flat latch, was my Summer carry. Sold to a friend . Have a Model 60-15 in 3" for carry , all the time. Wanted to step up to a .357 for carry instead of a .38 special.
The 37 was a Good carry piece. Light and Comfortable.

I bought mine, a 37 no dash, flat latch, in 1983. Had a custom, suede lined, paddle holster made for it and carried it a lot. I have NEVER fired this one and still have the two piece, blue box with the tools. It now resides in the safe but, every once in a blue moon, I get it out and actually carry it but, as a back up to the primary EDC.
I have also owned and shot a couple of model 36 revolvers. They are great shooters and the accuracy will surprise you. My daughter has a Mod. 60 that I gave her as an "apartment" warming present. Same as the 36.

Not quite sure what you're looking for here, you don't provide
much information. Do you have one you're trying to get
information about? What is it you want owners of 37s to talk
about? I have two 37-2s with the RB and standard wood
magna grips. Try asking some specific questions if you're
trying to learn something.

The new ones are made on a larger, clunkier frame than the older ones.
I prefer the older M 37.
The only problem is the hammer.
That's why the M 38 is my prefference.

I'm lucky I have a 2 inch and a 3 inch
The 2 in has an extra cylinder.
The retired detective I bought it from told me that he had sent it back to S&W
to replace the aluminum cylinder with a steel one. The steel one is in the 37 now.
Anyone know if they actually shipped with aluminum cylinders?

I carry one a lot in the summer, or if I'm just working around the farm. Mine is a 37 no dash made in '68. I have shot it a lot. I enjoy shooting it and it is accurate for a 1 7/8" barrel. I only shoot standard pressure LRN ammo. No cracks so far. This little gun has been shot more than any of my other handguns and I still like it. It does have a pretty good recoil but I like that too.
Peace,
gordon

My nickel 2" Mod. 37 has been my favorite ankle carry gun for years. Ditto for my 3" blued as a belt carry for hiking. Both are so lightweight that you can forget they are there.

Well, the size and shape is great...
It's one great little gun but I have its standard blue steel brother, the 36. Since improvements in ammo I wouldn't feel under gunned with a 37.

Mine looks almost new, except for one detail. The frame is cracked from stem to stern underneath the barrel. What I have is lots of like new parts (nickel). Fortunately, I'm in it very light and likely could part it out and be even or ahead, but I have a trio of 60s and a 42. Might need a part someday.

I have a 37. It's rated +P but I practice with Standard 38 99% of the time. I read wear a batch of the -2 37s came with bobbed hammers so I bobbed mine. While I always have a 442 in my pocket a 37 or 36 is in my Belt

Alwslate and all others,
Sorry. I will try to a bit more clearer on the mod 37 thing.
Do these lil guys (mod 37) have some special something for the users?
Do these 37's have some kind of collector value?
I don't see them much, if not at all. Been looking for one for 35 years and finally found one.
I was told the 37 I have was made in the mid-70's
Can one still get the so called Smith-Wesson banana grips? Or perhaps a T-Grip for the 37?
I like the bobbed hammers. Easy to draw.
Who makes a IWB leather holster for the lil guys?
Would a reload made up as follows be ok: 125 hard cast bullet,5 grs Unique and CCI standard pistol primer?
Thanks, that's all for now

Ok, there's really nothing all that special about the mod 37 compared
to other lightweight J frame 38s in the S&W line. Several choices, take
your pick. Some people tend to think that all older S&W revolvers have
collector value but the 37 is just a plain alloy frame version of the mod
36. It was meant to be a plain working model and is unlikely to ever
have any real collector value. If it took you 35 yrs to finally see your
first one you must live in some deep dark corner of the world where
no one has ever heard of a gun show. J frame S&Ws are very common
and so are various grips and holsters for them. Every name brand
holster maker has several types of holsters for the J frames in their
lineup. Mid 70s mod 37s are fine with any standard pressure 38 spl
ammo ONLY. Not rated for +P. There were a few mod 37s that came
from the factory with a bobbed hammer but most of them that you
might see were done by their owners, like mine was.

Bread and Butter Gun
I inherited a Model 37 from a dear friend. I've used it as a pocket gun in winter, wearing it in a breast zipper pocket where I can quickly access it. However, I prefer the 9mm autoloader for primary defense.
The Model 37 tends to kick a bit and I generally confine its use to standard velocity ammo. My gun was manufactured in the 1970s
(I think). Once or twice yearly, I take it to the range and feed it standard wadcutters.

I have one from 1977 that's in pretty good shape. I love its action. I can't bring myself to carry it because I don't want to wear the finish from the frame edges. I plan to give it to one of my kids. That way they can wear it in.

Recently found an original Model 37 just like yours pictured above in what looked like excellent condition (I didn't take it out and inspect it). I was highly tempted to buy it, assuming all was well with it, but cash is extremely limited right now. Still, it was worth putting on my "2016 Possibilities" list.
Damn pretty little gun IMHO. Far nicer in almost all respects than the current J-frame offerings.

I bought one new in 1978 and proceeded to carry it daily until around 2000. Now it get's carried every once in awhile. I shoot it with handloads I've developed for it (my loads and hammer spring tuned to each other).
Trigger shows signs of some of the polishing I've done before I learned how to limit the polishing range. :~)

I have a Model 37 3" that I purchased as my first CCW. I carried that for a lot of years. It's a great carry handgun and I still have it yet today!

Convinced my Dad to buy this one in 1967. Didn't know airweight from steel frames then, but the Chief's were popular and this was the only one available.
Carried a lot and shot little, but it still does nightstand duty ...

Here are two of mine -- a 2" and a 3".
Both have seen use.
For some unknown reason, I find the 2" to be easier to shoot accurately than the 3".

Here's both of mine. The 3 inch was my grandfather's carry/nightstand gun. My dad bought it new for him around '71-'72 and gave it to me when my grandfather passed away. The finish is pretty rough and I can't hit anything with it, but I'll never get rid of it.
I picked up the 2 inch at a gun show last year. IIRC, it's a 37-2, made sometime in the 90's. It's extremely accurate for a small gun, or at least I shoot it very well. With Aguila 158 grain SJHP's, it shoots 2" groups at 15 yards. It doesn't seem to like any +P ammo, averaging 6–8" groups at 7–10 yards. It's currently wearing a nice set of diamond Magnas that my dad loaned me. It does duty as a fishing/snake gun and occasionally rotates through the lineup as my daily carry.

I'll add another picture to the parade....
The 37 is a fine little handgun and it serves its intended purpose well. Every handgun has its pros and cons. If you want a quality, lightweight, and good conceal-ability firearm the 37 is an excellent choice.
