Trying to determine a fair price to pay for a Smith and Wesson 38 model 10-5 Still in the box, with paperwork and cleaning rod Made in 1969 never shot. I may be able to get it for $500. The only S&W's I have now are a K22 and a Model 41 and they may be the 2 most accurate guns I shoot.

The Model 10 is the most common revolver S&W ever made as far as I know. Current production is a 4" round butt model:

MSRP is $739 but they're likely available at retail for a lot less if you shopped around or went on auction sites.

I'm not denigrating the gun, just giving you an update on them. I love the Model 10, offhand I think I have eight of them, could be seven. I see a used Model 10-8 heavy barrel available on one auction site (I won't list it to stay within the rules) at around $520. New ones are more.

New in the box is worth a premium so $500 is arguably fair. If it's a two-inch barrel NIB it's even more arguably fair. I wouldn't be inclined to pay too much more than that.

It could be argued that any decent S&W K-Frame is worth $400.
But this one has the box, etc, and is unfired.
True, the 4" barrel is the most common, but I would still buy that one in a heartbeat.
 
At $500 as described, I would be a buyer. It is worth that unfired. Personally, my guns all get shot. Unfired guns if kept that way, are not much fun. Let us know how you make out! Bob
