I see a 4" nickel model 10-5 with box, cleaning tools & papers for sale at $600 is this a reasonable price?
Anything in particular that I need to know about this model?
Thanks

In my area a S&W 10 goes for $400.00 and up, depending on the condition. If the gun you are considering is pristine, I would think the price is normal. A round butt version will also bring a bi more around here.

Yeah, that's a great price. Add in at least $100 for the box and tools and paperwork. Add another $100 for the fact it's nickel. You're paying $400 for the gun and $200 for all the extras. I'd pay it and be delighted. Assuming it's factory nickel. Also assuming the box matches the gun; but, that's not all that important since the box and all the stuff is worth $100 even if it doesn't match.

Sounds a bit high for our area (I live in Va.) by about $100 unless in it is NIB. Offer 25%less as starting point. Factory nickel should have the N stamping on barrel, frame and cylinder. I agree with DocB that a matching box, papers and tools (and grips matched) add $100.

Model 10's are rugged, dependable and great revolvers I carried one in the 1970's as a LEO.

For comparison: Recently I bought a 10-7 nickel, 4", pinned barrell without box, tools, papers for $300 early morning at a gun show. (Grips were correct but not numbered to the gun.) I feel I got a great deal! The nickel had some minor scrtaches from holster wear, a little dull in places and it needed a good cleaning. It appeared it may have been a police carry at one time but was in excellent condition overall. Here is a picture after cleaning and a light nickel polish with Flitz.

I would also confirm that grips are numbered to the revolver. That adds value as well as the original box. Should be stamped on the inside of the right grip. Several or more numbers that match the last several of the serial number of revolver.

I always request to pull the grips on a used revolver. If all matches then I would make a fair offer on the revolver. S&W doesn't make nickel plated revolvers any longer.

I acquired a decent factory nickel Model 10-5 with a 4" barrel back in June for $222.00 It cleaned up nice and is in perfect mechanical condition , It was just the revolver. Here are pictures. I think the Blue Book at a 20% premium for factory nickel.

nickel 10-5

This factory nickel 1947 M&P ( pre model 10) is mechanically excellent with a spot of flaking. $425.00 a year or so ago; also for your reference along with the post by lamarw :)

I should add that I picked up this 1964 M10-6 at a gun show earlier this year for $350. . .no box or docs or tools, but look at those grips that came on it. I still say $600 is a good price for a minty nickel M10 with all the stuff to go with it. At the same time, there are still deals out there on a fairly common (nickel not so common) gun as you can see by so many posters who have found those deals. I'm still looking for a minty 10-5 nickel with the tapered (pencil) barrel.

I bought the 10-5 today, I got it for $100 less than his asking price. The gun is in better condition than I expected, appears to be shot 3 rounds as only every other cylinder face has some carbon and no carbon above the forcing cone. The cleaning rod and bore brush are still sealed in the plastic sleeve. The owners manual is missing and I found one on ebay.
Can someone help with the ship date?
The SN is D 716 121
