64-2 Date?
I'm seeking the date of manufacture for a stainless 2" Model 64-2 with serial number 1D73xxx. It is a .38 Spl model in great condition, has pinned barrel but cylinders are not recessed.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson gives the serial number range for 1979-1980 as 1D45001 to 1D99999. My guess from extrapolation would be early to mid 1980. Pinned barrels were deleted in 1982.
There are folks on this forum who maintain their own databases of various models and serial numbers. They may be able to give you a more accurate date.

.38 Special cylinders were not recessed. (.357 magnum were) You should certainly enjoy owning a 2" K frame. I really like my 10-5 rb snub. Bob

That serial number, according to the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson 4th. Edition, would fall in the 1979-80 range (1D45001-1D99999.)

I just bought a 64-2 minutes ago that has 1D73xxx for a serial number! This was the first place I stopped looking for a manufacture date. That's one problem solved. My next conundrum is figuring out what the C.C.P.D. 432 is. I'm thinking Corpus Christi Police Department. Any one else have any ideas?
