I've got an R-101 like that except it's bright pink. I understand they came in a cloth (satin?) lined box. Obviously intended for the female market, someone at High Standard was thinking outside the box.

1911 Six caliber Set
This one is a bit unusual. This set has all of the parts, Instructions, and tools, needed to convert this one Colt series 70 1911 pistol, into any one of six calibers. and all held in a home made oak case I built. The calibers are .22LR, 9mm Luger, .38 Auto, .38 Super, .41 A&E, and .45ACP.

Nothing fancy just a WW2 vet bring back a P-38 byf 43. But he was my wife's uncle and I was a pallbearer at his funeral. A great guy and a paratrooper.
When it came up for sale I had to have it. Showed with the original holster correct date code and older magazines.

In the Smith arena it would depend on the guests interests, mine are mostly shooters, with my interests in hunting handguns. For the wow factor I have a Colt-Sharps rifle, one of 500 made in 25-06, still unfired and with all the goodies that came in the hard case. I like single shot rifles as well.

WOW! Great story. Nice old Luger. Thanks for sharing it. My Step-dad was in the 3rd as well, big outfit, but wonder if they might have known one another. What is interesting about this Luger is that my mother never knew that he had it. After he died in 2005 we started going through his things and I found it in an old footlocker wrapped in a couple of oily rags. A few minutes later I found the paperwork and a few old battlefield pictures with it. My mother told me to keep it, she left it to me in her will. When she died in 2014 it officially became mine, but I already had custody of it. Had it appraised for insurance in 2006, probably need to do it again.

This one also gets lots of "Wow, that's cool" remarks. It is my King's Gun Works custom 1948 Colt Commercial Gov't. It's a well preserved example not only of the postwar Colt Gov't Model but also of the custom work that shops were doing back in the 70's when names like King's, Capone, Swenson, Behlert, Hogue, and Clark were who you called for top notch custom 1911 work.
My M1A SOCOM EBR is the one that get's the "Wow, that's bad ***" votes, it comes out when the talk turns to black guns.
My Clark custom Meltdown Colt 1991A1 compact gets an honorable mention because it elicits the most variety of comments, from "Wow, that's beautiful" to "Wow, that's ridiculous" and all points in between.

All three of your "Wow Weapons" shown, are truly great, but, the one that really flops my mop, is the King's, .45 Gov. Mod. that you show. All of my Hand Gun shooting life, It was my ambition, to build, or to have one built, using similar components. I wonder, how many folks today, know that the custom, builders of the day, used S&W K/N, frame WO, rear, sights, and S&W Red ramp front sights before, Colt came out with their own, suitable, adjustable, sights for their 1911 match pistols? It's way to late now, for me to use the, S&W adjustable sights stashed away, in my "Stuff", for that purpose.

My two would be a nickel 1980 S&W Model 57 Class A engraved that has the shipping container and the presentation case still wrapped in plastic...
The second would be a Colt El Capitan in .38 Super which is the only .38 Super Colt ever made with an Officers ACP length slide...and the serial number is 007...

Wow, let me see. For the uninitiated, I usually get out the W&K 44 only because it was once owned by Hank Williams Jr. I got the factory letter with it that was sent to him.
Maybe my favorite, certainly favorite non S&W, is a browning 22 grade III engraved by Master engraver Vranchen in 1958. it is early with the coin finish rec and a rabbit on top.
My personal favorite smith (right now) is the obligatory pre 27.
My homage to RKmesa Richard, is my model 25-2 by master engraver Ray Viramontez.
From the darkside, my 1920 Colt New Svc fitzed in a period correct Buckheimer shoulder holster. Thomas Hickman is engraved on the back strap, but have no provenance.
And for the recently departed, a King Outdoorsman Super Target.

My only WOW is my S&W 648 no dash with wooden combat grips, which impresses folks when I tell them its known to be rare (for a relatively modern model), and its a MAGNUM!
The word "Magnum" impresses them most!
I recently found some paperwork with provenance that master S&W revolver gunsmith Gene Sypek laid hands on it and made sure it was correct back in the day, so maybe that adds some WOW too!
And I also have my Dad's WW2 Army Air Corp Colt Commando 38Spc revolver in 2" snubbie!
He was a Major. The 2" Commando version is evidently Rare! (4" are more common!)
Dad is 95.5 yrs old and lives in a restrictive state, so he's not getting it back!  But thanks for your service Dad!

for me it would have to be my model 14 rem. carbine made in 1912 it is in 30 Remington caliber. a pawn shop find and it shoots great for a so called obsolete cartridge. what dose it for me is the wood,,,,,,,,,

Walther PP Dr. No, K38 long, 25-2. They have a certain cool factor to the uninitiated I like them too but currently more focussed on my workhorse IDPA guns.

Don't know about this Model 66 being a WOW gun, it's a little more solemn than that. This belonged to Patrolman Larry Childress, Memphis Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty January 14, 1982. I feel honored to own this weapon, it has a place of reverence in my safe.

I am afflicted with the DSM described condition known as the 1911-A1 malady. The only known cure is more 1911-A1's. It was the only handgun created to be an offensive battle weapon. Would Sergeant York or Audie Murphy have held a 9MM?
The Peacemaker might've won the West, but the 1911-A1 won the world.

This is a tough question because the audience really makes a difference when it comes to what makes someone go wow.
For my grandkids it is my Smith & Wesson M&P 15. They could care less about my collectables. They just think the AR is cool and fun to plink with.
When I'm out chasing birds at the local pheasant club this little Holland & Holland box lock raises eyebrows even if it is a pretty plain H&H made by Webley and Scott for Holland & Holland in the 1960s.
For Smith & Wesson guys these .44 Specials and this little M&P .22 post office gun have some wow factor.
The gun I own that makes me go wow is this 120 year old Belgian double that was sold through William Read & Sons of Boston. It is just so well made and locks up like safe with a satisfying snap as the action is closed. It really is my favorite gun to hunt with.

Bought this 16-4 (w/ box) on GB 5 years ago for the opening price of $800 shipped, it had been catalogued improperly and I doubt many saw it. 6" originally it had been bobbed to 5", then the full-lug barrel was milled to a shroud only. Slicked up for DA:
Craftsman unknown but it came from Andy Horvath's neighborhood, work certainly done in the 1990's.
I do like the polished trigger but I wish the hammer was original....

The first 3 I posted have all garnered me some interest at the range. The fourth one is just one I find interesting for it's history since it is a pretty early one.
Sorry if my post didn't exactly conform to your parameters - though it looks like some people like my "wow" examples...

Most of what I got would be military surplus rifles. And the handguns have "character". However the nicest one would be my S&W model 24-3 in 44 special with the 3" barrel and combat grips. Around here glocks, and just about any semi automatic pistol are extremely popular. Revolvers not so much. Cannot do pics as I'm electronically challenged. Frank
