I have a bunch of Tyler T and older pachmayr grip adaptors in my junk box. Is there a chart or thread somewhere that lists the various size codes for these? Especially the older pachmayr?

I have additional info from a 1970 Shooter's Bible on the Pachmayr's:

1M: Colt Police Positive, Detective Special (Old Model)
3S, 3M, 3L: Colt Official Police, Officers Model, Python, Trooper in Small, Medium & Large thickness
4S and 4L: Colt Shooting Master, New Service in Small and Large thickness
7S and 7L: Colt Cobra, Detective Spl, Police Positive (New Models) in Small and Large thickness
2M and 2L: S&W J Frame Sq. Butt in Medium and Large thickness
6S, 6M and 6L: S&W K Frame Sq. Butt in Small, Medium and Large thickness
8M: S&W J Frame RB, Medium thickness
9L: S&W N Frame, Large thickness

The number generally corresponds to the shape, length and curvature of the front grip strap and relationship to the trigger guard which of course is different among the Colts as wells as among the S&W models. The S/M/L designation is for how "thick" the adapter is from the rear going forward from where it touches the grip strap, and how much material is under the trigger guard where it would rest upon your middle finger.

Tyler T Grip
#1 S&W J frame after 1955
#2 S&W J frame before 1955
#3 S&W K, L square butt
#3R S&W K, L round butt
#4 S&W N frame
#5 Colt D frame Det Spcl, Agent, Police Positive
#6 Colt I J frame, Python, Trooper, .357
#7 Old Colts before 1941 Police Positive, Det Spcl
#8 Ruger

Pachmayr Grip Filler

Maybe this will be a help to other collectors and users.
This is an 8M Pachmayr Grip Adapter or Filler.
It's made of hard plastic with spring steel retaining clip.

It came on a Model 42 with smooth stocks.
In my opinion it fit the 42's stocks well.

However this combination pushed my pinky off and under the butt. In comparison the B-K adapter doesn't do that. But the Centennial decendents have a unique grip that may not be comparable to a standard Chief, J or I frame.

Trying it on a square butt M36-1 they did not fit tight up against the wood. I suspect this is more about the square butt compared with the more typical round butt J frame.

S&W Grip Adapter

Here's a used Smith and Wesson grip filler for a K-frame. Also made of plastic and uses a virtually identical clip as the Pachmayr above. Unlike the Pachmayr, size/fit is not molded in.

It fits the full length of the magna stocks.
