Default New to me M27-2 1973

I will get this in a couple weeks. Thank God the grips are nicely figured, so I do not have to buy more of them.

My first, and probably only long tube

Nothing wrong with those long tube 27-2s. Here's one from about the same timeframe as yours, maybe a year earlier.

Narragansett:

If I may be so bold, about this will be your 'only'
long tube.
I can't even begin to describe how much inexpensive entertainment I have realized over decades with this
bought new 8 3/8" Model 17-4.

Just sayin'.

That's really really nice.

Another configuration I don't see in my future but only because I think I have reached my limit.

Such a cool looking revolver, how does she shoot? I am curious how the balance and recoil are compared to the 5 inch. Always wanted to try out the long barrel but never had the opportunity. Congrats!

You reached your limit with 4 daughters. I was told, I had to have 1 long tube. I do not carry, so a 27 long bbl will fit the range. Had to get 1 M27, but i love my 28's. I do not want J frames, so I am done unless a 28 comes along that I cannot pass up. And i am not a short bbl hand cannon guy

I see you finally scratched your itch for a model 27, Pete!

BTW, you do know those are stocks from a later gun, right? The speedloader cutout stocks came on the model 27 guns after they went to the -3 revision. Your long tube gun should have come with football targets. Those are some great looking stocks though.

BTW, it will be fun as heck to shoot too. That long tube tames recoil way down even on the hottest ammo.

No, I did not know that about the stocks, but it is fine with me. I have a really nice set of dark footballs I could put on it though. I guess i just had to have one, and I do not carry so a range gun was just fine

Pete:

CONGRATS on finally pulling the trigger on a Model 27. If it ends up being the only long tube 357 in your collection after you pick it up and fire it, I would be very surprised.

I could be wrong, but I've always thought that some of the later shipped 27-2's also came with the stocks you picture on that gun. The 27-2's shipped from 1962ish - 1982ish. Unless the stocks number to the gun, I often play musical grips with my long ones and have a ton of fun shooting, and collecting them.

BTW: I love the long tube 357's. They are my favorite range guns and a great engraving canvas... The word many of us long-tube-lovers use to describe them is "elegant"

A few photos of a few to help tide you over until you can pick up that beauty.

Default New to me 27-2 1973

This is the only long tube 27 I own. It left the factory sometime in 1977 and came to me with the 3 T's but these are the grips it usually wears. Sure is a lot of fun to shoot. Gets a lot of looks when it goes to the range with me. For super accurate shooting you just can't beat a long tube.

I've got the original wood presentation case, tools, literature etc. but no blue box or exterior shipping box.

The reason I stated they were not original is due to his thread title, which has a date of 1973 for the gun. And I don't know of any N frame target stocks being made with the speedloader cutout back then. Regardless, they are some beautiful wood and it will be nicer to use speedloaders with anyways.

Hey Pete,

Glad you got a 27! I am now without one. My 27-2 went down the road a month or three ago. Actually, I don’t have anything in 357.

Anyway, enjoy it and keep shooting.

I am quite sure, that there is something in the rule book about mandatory 357 ownership.. Stiff penalty for violation. You are in the short term grace period right now

Probably never going to have one again. Personal reasons, but I have little/no use for one.

Now, an “N” frame 45 ACP, yep, I like them!
