Local seller has listed this 28-2 for sale. I have a question.
This gun is listed locally for sale. It's a 28-2 in nickel (this is the only picture he has posted).
Does this look factory nickeled? After a little bit of research it seems only a small amount were made in nickel.
He's asking $850.

It's hard to tell with a single photo, but this one looks blued to me. It looks nice but not $850 nice.
Very few model 28s had original factory nickel finish so any value increase based on this claim would need to be verified with a factory letter/letter of authenticity.

I agree that it looks blue in the picture. I sold a 98% 6 inch 28-2 Blue last summer at the SWCA auction for $650 and thought that was a fair price.
As Alan mentioned, if it is factory nickel, that's another thing.

He didn't list it as nickel, it just looks nickel to me. Must be my eyes I guess.

Just the lighting and reflection. Great guns. Those grips are good for shooting and poor for selling/buying. Should have magnas or targets.
$650is about righ and a bit more for 4"

Local seller has listed this 28-2 for sale. I have a question.
If it were factory nickel, which I don’t think this is, it would have an N stamped on the grip frame and on the face of the cylinder as you open it and look straight down the chambers.
The prices for these are going up but without appropriate stocks it is overpriced, but I wouldn’t let mine go for $650.

That price is high in my area. Also, pull the stocks off the gun and look for corrosion. The last two S&W 65’s I bought were wearing Hogues like those. Both guns were pitted.

I don't think that is nickel plated, it looks like the factory satin blue finish with a little wear at the muzzle. I'd want to see what's hiding under the rubber stocks. Rubber stocks tend to trap moisture. As for the price, $850 is high for a Model 28 that is used, does not have the original stocks and likely no original box. I'd say $600 to maybe $700 if there is no corrosion or pitting under the stocks.

The Model 28-2 is a blued revolver. The reflected light makes it look somewhat light in appearance, but it is blue.

Been doing this too long. Saw the title "Question on 28-2" and immediately thought "no the nickel is not original."
