Model 49-2 Camel Hump

Several years ago, I inherited a Model 49-2 revolver from my Dad after he passed away. I wasn't able to talk to him too much about it before he left. I haven't used this forum very much, and I tried the search but came up blank on nearly anything regarding this firearm. I did get some useful information from another forum member a few years back when I was trying to identify it.

Question... what are the difference(s) between the Model 49 and the Model 49-2?

It is clearly marked on the yoke "Mod 49-2". S/N is BNS47XX. It's a camel hump, .38, blue steel, 2", 5 shot.

The Model 49 is called "The Bodyguard"and is built on a steel J frame with a round butt. The 49-2 appeared in 1990 with a "new" sight width on the frame and barrel increase to 1/8".

The serial number points to a production date in early 1993. Technically has a "shrouded hammer", sometimes nicknamed a "humpback" but calling it a camel is new to me.

First, sorry for your loss, I fully understand how that feels.
Second, welcome to the S&W Forums.
Third, it's called the hump back.
Fourth, where are the pictures? We love gun p@rn around here!
Fifth, the S&W J-frames are awesome carry/defense revolvers and yours comes with sentimental value.
