I have 49 no dash, that left the factory in January of 1983.
I've had it for sale locally for some time and received an Email
this morning from a prospective buyer who lives in California
wanting to know if was still for sale. I told him yes, but be sure
to check and see if the revolver was legal in Calif.

He replied that he had checked with his local FFL and was told
he found a 37 and a 38 model but no 49. Was advised to contact
the seller and obtain a SKU number which would make it real
easy to look it up.

I get the impression the prospective buyer is a novice gun
buyer.

My question is how do I find a SKU number and were they
even in use in 1983?

Bought the revolver with no box or docs.
Any help much appreciated,

Regards
Dick

There are no Model 49’s on the CA DOJ roster. Here’s the link to the DOJ list of approved handguns:

Handguns Certified for Sale | State of California - Department of Justice - Office of the Attorney General

Unless your buyer is an active LEO, who would be exempt from the roster, it cannot be imported to CA. If it’s already in the state, it can be transferred in a face to face transaction through an FFL.[/QUOTE

Thank you so much for this information. I will pass this on to
the buyer.

Dick

It's very odd that the buyer's FFL found the model 37 and 38 on the list but not the model 49. I guess the Airweight version of the Body Guard is acceptable to the control freaks in Ca but not the carbon steel version.
