I was very excited to purchase, & pick up this morning, this 4" 57 to accompany my 6" 57 (great shooter by the way), and fill in the 4" case that my 629 ND 4" came in!:D

Anyhow, I'm very glad to add this one to my collection of 41 magnums. Even came with snap caps!:) No box or papers, but like I said, I had a case waiting to fill.

The 6" is S238624 - April 24, 1964 ship date per Mr. Jinks.

I'll have to letter the 4" - S249340 expecting (don't know) it to have a '64 ship date as well.

Cheers to others with these lovely 57s!:D

57 First Year!

Thanks, fellas! They're getting harder to find, it seems.

I'll send off a letter tomorrow, and see what SWHF finds on the ship date. Regardless, it's nice to have a 4", & 6". I guess I need a 5" nickel (and a winning lottery ticket)?

Kingspoke, that is for sure a couple nice revolvers. thanks for sharing.

The King of Long Barrels - RK

Those are some mint .41 Magnums. All you need now is an 8 3/8" one as well.:D

Thanks for sharing,

Thank you, RK! You always take it to the next level!:) How I forgot to mention the long barrel, I don't know, but now that I got fortunate to get these two, I'll have to put one on my list.

I missed on a LB with 1st year case (ding, ding, ding!) on one of the sites, but I'm always keeping an eye out, for those unique Smiths.

629 No Dash with 4" barrel

Beautiful revolvers! Just curious, what happened to the 629 ND you said came in the case originally?

Interesting question, because crazy as it seems, the 1st year case was the impetus to buy the 629. I still had a couple of 629's left (3" & 7.5"), but no 4", so I kept it.:)

Great reason to buy! The case is harder to find than a 629! Above you mentioned a 8 3/8" in a "first year case". Was that case a velour lined case?
I have never seen one! I have had a couple 4" and 6" velour cases but never an 8 3/8"!

Yes, it was velour lined 8 & 3/8ths, though the gun was not, 1st year (wrong grips, etc). It was on GI a month of two ago, and as usual, I was a day late and a dollar short!:D

I was still going to go for it, though, & look for the real gun later.

My very first S&W purchase (I was 24) was in 1978 when I was out of college and had my first real job. It was a beautiful, brand spankin' new 4" bbl. blued Model 57 with the presentation case and all the goodies. I picked the .41 Magnum as a compromise between the .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum. I handloaded for the .41 Magnum, and it was an extremely accurate and fun shooter. I carried it (legal in Florida at the time) in a Bianchi X15 shoulder holster which was quite concealable. Unfortunately, the following year my apartment was burglarized and my Model 57 was stolen, never to be seen again. My roommate at the time actually fared worse than me because his new 6" Colt Python was also stolen. I do still have the presentation case, and I had Joe (jcelect) repair it for me a few years ago. I have a bunch of S&W .357 Magnums, .44 Magnums, and other N-frames, but I'm thinking it may be time to look around and replace my missing Model 57. It's a great gun and a great caliber...I should have thought of this sooner.
