After several years of trying to get a NYSP marked 28-2 I finally did it. My local enabler happened to have a 4" 28 sitting in the bottom of the used gun case two weeks ago tonight. I looked close at it through the glass and spotted the NYSP stamping and had to hold it.

I have only heard of a couple of these showing up out here on the left coast and knew it wouldn't be available for very long. As soon as I had it in hand I gave it quick check and found it to be in pretty good shape. It had been fired, but not that much and it has only minor holster wear. I gladly paid the California "real gun" premium because I don't think I'll see another one anytime soon.

Roy Jinks tells me this gun shipped to the New York State Police in July 1979. It sure does look good for an old duty gun. Next I'll need to see how it shoot...should be a good one.

Very nice. I carried a 28-2 as my first duty gun in 1977. I wanted one for years after getting rid of it for a 19 back in my rookie years. I finally found a badly used one that had some surface rust, was out of time and had a broken rear sight blade. I bought it about 5 years ago for $190.00 and had it shipped to my local FFL dealer. I stripped what was left of the finish, got a new rear sight and hand through Brownells and rebuilt it; putting it back in time. I then applied some "Oxy-Blu". After a couple of years, I sent it S&W and they refinished it for me. Very sweet piece.

After refinish
