Let's Share M18 pics
I was trying to make up my mind today if I was going to sell the (top) 1973 18-3 today, and I was comparing it to the (bottom) 1969 M18-3. So I had them laying side by side to I decided to take a pick and start a thread.
The decision was made neither of these is going anywhere

This is mine; it walked in off the street at a gun show many years ago, and I didn't miss a heartbeat to jump on it. It's one of my favorite handguns as a practice stand-in for its .38 and .357 brothers.

18-4, ~1977. Proof marks from Munich, Germany. Reimported through Skaneateles, New York. Target grips from the Classifieds in this forum. Little-to-no collector value, but still mostly shiny and lots of fun at the range or in the woods,

Here's my Pre 18 Combat Masterpiece from 1955 with Target Hammer, Target Grips and factory "Bright" finish. I have the box but too lazy to dig it out for the photos.

Here's my .22 CM / Pre-18, from ~1951
One of these days, I'd like to pick up an 18-3 to go along with it...

Late '50s era K22 Combat Masterpiece.
Same gun with the grips it was wearing when I got it. They are mismatched which is why I put some Culinas on the K22 CM.
18-3
The 18-3 has tight charge holes and they need to be cleaned out every 8 to 10 cylinders. The K22 CM is a sweet package, shoots tight groups with pretty much everything and the charge holes do not clog. Been contemplating selling the 18-3, but you know how that normally goes.

Nothing but fun with this 1958 vintage! And it rides nicely in this Lawrence half flapper.

Great idea, Narragansett. Somehow I have ended up with 4 Model 18s. Here are three blued 18-2s and a refinished silver no dash that letters to the Midland, Texas Police Department. It is mentioned on page 217 SCSW 4th Edition. I don’t know what the silver refinish is, perhaps hard chrome, but it shows no wear and the cases never stick in the chambers.

Mine was shipped in December 1952 one week before I was born. I just put some non relieved target grips on her but can’t find a photo. Enjoy.

No dashes
This one dates to 1958 by the book, but not lettered. Has the right box box but the grips don't number I might get buried with this one

Here's my pre-18 made in 1954. It's a lot of fun to shoot. There's a factory sticker on the box saying it's a Combat Masterpiece.

I have always wanted a Model 18 but the cost always stopped me. I am envious of you folks and your beautiful revolvers.
My younger brother-in-law has his grandfather’s Model 17-2. About ten years ago I tried to talk him out of it so I could swap out the 6-inch barrel for a 4-inch thereby creating a home-made Model 18. I even found and bought the barrel. But, no joy. He still has the 17-2 with its original barrel and I have a nice pinned barrel sitting in my safe. Maybe I should just go looking for a real Model 18.

18-3
My 18-3. Bought from the estate of a dear relative (WWII airman) with original box, docs, tools, and sales receipt. I also have the Model 67 that he purchased at the same time. Both are in like new condition.

My 1954 Pre-18 wearing Altamont Roper style grips. I've come to really like how they fit my hand and the affordable classic look.
I've been putting them on my other pre-model K-Frames.

Model 18
Got mine used from estate with box but missing original stocks. Had a pair of combat stocks on in place. I have since swapped out for magna shaped plain factory walnut grips with grip adapter.

My first one was nice, about 90% and shot great. Then my client, who owns a pawn shop called and said that he had something that I needed.
I paid the same amount for the second one that I had paid for the first one and then sold the first one. The second one is 95%, plus and an equally great shooter.

The bottom one is my 18-3 purchased last year, I had to install a new cylinder stop and also put the smooth combat trigger on it.
A very nice gun to shoot, good cheap gentle practice for the new 19-9 "Classic" above it. Both of the blued guns have Eagle "Heritage" grips which look much like the S&W Altamont grips on the 66 but feel much better. $$

While there are plenty of Smith's I'd like to add to my collection, I'm sure as heck glad I have a Model 18. This is a '78 dash 4 with TT and TH. LOVE the balance and how it shoots.

Here is a picture of my model 18 in the middle. Top revolver is a model 15-2 from 1966, model 18 from 1958 and a model 36 3” from 1972.

If this is a faux pas you can kick it, but I wanted to contribute. I recently let a dear friend talk me out of my 1964 model 18. Yes, I know... I replaced it with this one. I've not seen many of these. It's a 4" model 17-7. At least I'm back in a K Frame combat .22

My .22 Combat Masterpiece is one of my favorite revolvers. Its on my never sell list. It's condition is just how I like my guns...nice but not so I won't take them out to play.

Since I won't be the first to play a bit loose with the dates here, I'll post my 22 Combat Masterpiece from around 1951. The Masterpiece on the left was shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch in December 1947. Both have the original stocks.
The CM came to me through the generosity and thoughtfulness of a member of this forum, and it's a ridiculously accurate and good shooting gun. Like Bill's above it's in perfect condition for me--looks great but used enough to holster every once in a while and shoot at will!

I have 2, a no dash, from 1958-ish and a 1977 18-3. The 18-3 was a trainer for the Colorado State Patrol Academy. I found it an LGS. The 4-screw was bought, from a member, on this forum.

Love my S&W .22s.
Left and center on the bottom row are a pair of 18-3s.
The center gun is a 1977 model just as S&W made them.
The left gun is from 1974 and was modified by a previous owner. RR, WO, smooth face trigger and a wonderful action job. I added the Uncle Mike's Combat grips. This is my DA practice gun. I shoot this more than any other gun I own.

Everyone loves the 18, and I love mine. I always wondered why the cheaper-to-make model 45 was never significantly produced.

There sure are a bunch of gorgeous CMs in this thread. I have only one, and technically it is not a Model 18. K22 Combat Masterpiece, 4 screw, shipped in April, 1957. I bought it just a tad more than 4 years ago. It cost me $535 at the time, which I thought was reasonable then. In today's market, I think I bought it cheap...
